Made a stop at Carrefour at Porto Cupecoy for a few items today. I could not see what was ringing up but I had a rough idea of what things would cost with the conversion. The cashier was more involved in conversation with the customer behind me and we wanted to get moving so I paid via credit card and we were on our way. Upon getting back, I looked at the receipt and we were charged for 5 items when we only had 4 and 3 of the 4 did not scan properly. Nothing I can do about it now but we paid for an extra item and overpaid for 2 of the 4 we bought and 1 was slightly undercharged. Lesson learned and my fault but we paid about $8 more than the listed prices on the shelf. Next time I will cross check every item and address any discrepancy then.

Thanks. Will do. The store is closed tomorrow for a holiday and not sure it is worth the time to go back or if a dispute would do anything but this is not something the island needs to have happening. I should have addressed it at the time but I did not take the time to review the receipt. If it happened with just 4 items, I wonder what happens when people do a lot of shopping there.

Yeah, that is kind of scary, as we often spend a LOT of money at the grocery store, and to have things not scan correctly is a problem. And no way, when we buy 20-30 items, that we could check the receipt to see that the proper scan is made...

Can u let me know in which travel site is this posted. I was not at all confused and as a visitor of 28+ years, I know the guilder, French Franc back in the day and Euro thing. This was the items not scanning properly based upon the shelf tag and an item being added on. If you want to private message me his information, I can take it up with him later this week. Thanks.

Ok, as an update to this we did meet with the manager, Kailash, at the store earlier today. He was very nice and wanted to resolve the situation. Turns out we were in error as was the store as well. We bought a bottle of wine and knew what the price on the shelf tag indicated but it scanned well more than it should have and there was another charge on the bill we did not recognize. Turns out the wine was located in at least 3 different places in the store and each had a different price but it was due to it being put in the wrong place without the proper corresponding price tag.
The manager checked the various locations of the bottle and agreed it has been not been properly placed and would create confusion. Sadly, this happens in the states a lot as a product runs out and to fill shelf space another product is placed but not properly labeled. The extra charge was due to the bottle being bought chilled as the manager indicated there is a $1 US charge (1.80 guilder) for any alcohol bought from a cooler. No sign indicating but but now we know. The manager said they were trying to stock heavily in anticipation of the holiday weekend and many items were not properly placed, including what we had bought. It was resolved to more than our satisfaction and we were offered more than one option of resolving it but I let Kailash make the call as to what he wanted to do. It was a very positive experience and I told him I would make it known what had happened and it was resolved.
This was not a large amount of $$ but it was the principal of the matter and I greatly appreciate his assistance along with TTOL member "bran" intervening. Thanks to Kailash and "bran" for stepping up. It all ended well and now we can drink the wine.

Good and happy ending.........pleased to hear this was resolved. $1.00 extra though for putting in a cooler? hmmmm. Although thinking about it, possibly nitpicking. I was also amazed to start with but not anymore what goes on in some of our Supermarkets, particularly in Florida when every month or so, they(Publix) make a mistake. I check everything now. If the grapes say $1.99 a pound. don't charge me $2.50 a pound. They don't always tell you this, but if they make a mistake they are meant give you your money back and you keep the product. But what really irks me is "creative selling" when they offer their 2 for 1 deal. Last week saw several jars of (what I thought were purely)grapefruit with a buy one get the second one free deal. But you have to look carefully. They throw in the mixed cocktail(orange plus grapefruit, which there were only 6 jars) with the grapefruit only offer and in very small writing it states "for orange plus grapefruit". I find this deceptive and always am concerned for a much older generation(bad vision etc) who miss this vital piece of information. Moral of the story, check everything. I'm old school, used to having the change counted out to me, not dumped in my hand because that's what the change given receipt tells them on their machine. many can't count.

I have been in many stores at home that charge extra for beverages that are sold from a cooler. Not unusual, especially at a convenience store.

Thanks again for your connection. Yes, a $1 for any wine or 6 pack of beer that is cold.
We have a very competitive grocery market where we live and improper scanning happens as does an item selling out and being replaced with a higher priced item in the same shelf spot but not at the sale price. Kroger has their "scan right" guarantee which is the item is free (up to $5) but you have to push the issue and that usually entails standing in the "customer service" line.

Wow, this happens. Have also been undercharged at grocery also. Would not waste time on vacation for 8 bucks. How much did you lose in time and gas.......😬

How much did you lose in time and gas.......😬 First if all, it was the principal and if it is happening to one person, it is likely happening to others. Regarding gas and time...we had a beach day planned at Mullet Bay for Tuesday so going to Carrefour at Porto Cupecoy was less than 5 minutes out of my way. 10 minutes total time and almost no extra gas used. Your choice as to how you would have handled it and this was my choice.

There was a sign regarding the charge for cold beverages as recently as last week, and the policy was in effect there last season, as well. I had a similar situation with a bottle of wine there a couple of years ago, from which I actually was the beneficiary. An expensive burgundy was priced very low, but scanned at a considerably higher price. When I showed them the price on the shelf, they gave me the bottle at that price, but immediately changed the tag!

If there was a sign, we did not see it. As I stated, the manager more than made it right with us but when you have the same product in 3 different places and the shelf tags to not match, it is tough to figure out what is going on. All I wanted was an explanation of the added item (charge for cold beverage) and the discrepancy for the bottle in question adjusted. All is good.

Ha, Ha, I would have done the same thing, just so that if it was a problem going forward, it could be corrected, not so much for me losing the 8 bucks, but for someone who had a much larger order. Always good to follow thru for the sake of others as well as yourself. Thanks for taking the time, and for the tip. I will be careful to check any purchases. Sometimes when on island mode,,you just want to get in and get out, lol and back to the beach or wherever. Cannot wait till January. Cheers!
