Haven't had much interest shown in the Meet and Greet I've set up for December 2. Please see the People Talk forum for more info and sign up if you will be on island.

That is surprising. We had a really nice time last year with a group of, I think, about 30.

Only in the Simply group, and there have been several from that group who have signed up.

There are several Facebook groups related to SXM. The one to which I was referring is titled "Simply SXM." (without the period) Others are:

SXM or Bust!
Pirates of SXM
Jeff Berger's Everything St. Maarten / St. Martin / SXM Facebook Group (just as wordy as his newsletters) smile

There are others, but those are the primary ones.

..and ALL of them are closed groups, that you can't even read, unless you register.

You make it sound as though that's a bad thing. I don't think it is. Do you?

People here can READ all they want, without having to register. And trust me, they do. What are people saying there, that you can't even READ what they say without registering? I don't get the whole deal of Facebook.

Some groups you can read w/o being a member, others are closed to non-members. I belong to Simply, Jeff Berger's site, Orient Village Life, SXM Naturism and probably 1 or 2 others. Some I applied for, others asked me if I wanted to join (and I thought about what Groucho Marx said). I also belong to several political groups and motorcycle groups. But, I still check in here daily & enjoy learning new info.

Oh, sorry, I thought you had to be a member to read for all of them.

A "closed" group is now known as a "private" group on facebook and you do have to be a member to read. A "public" group can be read by anyone on facebook.

Unfortunately, not everyone who goes to SXM is a member of TTOL. Facebook provides me an opportunity to stay in touch with dozens of folks across the country who I may see only once a year, if that. I find it an invaluable tool that allows me to stay in touch with people I don't see face to face very often. And I can post a photo from my phone to a FB group with pretty much one click. I have posted no personal information to my Facebook account and accept friend requests generally only from those I have met face to face; there are a few exceptions, but my general rule is to be "friends" only with those folks I've met in person. For me, it's a wonderful tool.

I would agree with only accepting friend requests to only those I have met face to face.

Also, a major difference to me is the discussion here is so positive. I can go on TTOL and not be irritated by all of the political talk on Facebook.

The SXM FB groups to which I belong take a hard line on politics - just as TTOL does. And that's as it should be.
Now, to add to the confusion. There are pages, not groups, which you can follow. An excellent one is SXM Epicure.
More confusion: There are other social media sites with SXM groups. Two of them are Cluster & MeWe.

The location is Bar Code in Jordan Village. Arrival time is any time after 4:00 p.m. Come and go as you please. I think several of us will be staying for dinner. See the "People Talk" forum for all info.
