Just back from the SVI, and let me tell you what... IT WAS GREAT!

There will be a travel report forthcoming, but I wanted to post to say how much fun we had!

Several folks told us that the SVI's were like the BVI's 30 years ago. I can get that. Several places we went were totally our own. No other people. Very cool!

Can't believe I'm home. Bummer!

Yes. We'll be on Sarah Sue, a Lavezzi 40/4 from CYOA.

We took Sarah Sue to the SVI two years ago, so it should be just like old-times!

That would be cool Evan - we're there in late July. I thought I'd heard that Mamacita's was closed, but the Dingy Dock was rocking it out.

Our loose schedule is to hit Culabrita for 2 days, then Esperanza on Vieques for 2 days, then on to Green Beach for a night, then 2 nights at Puerto Del Ray, back to Culebra (somewhere!) and then back to the USVI.

I thought Mamacitas bought the Dinghy Dock and moved the operation. In our opinion the Dinghy Dock was not very good. We dry dock at Nanny Cay August 1.

That could be right Evan, I'm certainly not in the know about the details.

Mamasitas was open when we were there last week. We were so excited to find out they were open! They said they were closed for renovations?? We had a fantastic dinner there!

Maybe I can clear up the confusion. I was on Culebra over New Years and in May. Both restaurants have changed management/ownership. The managers and crew that used to run Mamacita's now run Dinghy Dock. A new owner has re-opened Mamacita's. I haven't tried the new Mamacita's yet, but dined twice at DD where the menu is enhanced with small plates offerings, and found them terrific. Also, look into Zaco's Tacos. Gourmet Mexican fare. I believe they might be closed for a few days as the owners (also ex-Mamacita's) are in the states for a visit. Brunch at Vibra Verde is worth your time, and if Susie's is re-opened in its new location by the time you arrive, it is your 'fine dining' option. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

I knew there was something going on, last we heard Mamacitas was closing and relocating to the DD. We love Susies and always make that a must stop in Culebra.

Okay, Susie's is up and running, as of yesterday, July 3rd. It is located on the road to Zoni, right where the road makes its first sharp right turn. Can't miss it. Unfortunately not dinghy accessible, but other transportation options exist, including Publicos and taxis.

seriously, public transportation it's like 200 yards off the dock, over the Dewey Bridge and make a right. Pretty decent grocery store there as well.

P.S. you can dinghy to the fuel dock, across from Mamacitas, and its right there.

That's the OLD Susie's. She just moved inland and debuted on the 3rd.

Susie's new place is on the road to Playa Zoni. From town, where the dinghy docks are, head toward the airport. Just before the airport, after you pass Carlos' Jeep rental on the left bear right. Her new place is a mile or two on the left. Ask in town or grab a cab.
