We rented one recently and it was our first cat rental experience, after some monohulls. We liked the room, and big refrigerator etc but wonder about the sailing- Is this boats sailing ability typical of cats? It seemed bumpy to us, although where we were, the "christmas winds" and big swells existed so a monohull might have been worse. Hulls seemd like they pounded thru the waves not slice thru them. Whats the "word" on this boat style? Thanks

You said it perfectly, monos cut through the water, cats run on top.

We rent a mono if we want something to sail.
We rent a cat if we need lots of living space.
Comes down to the number of crew aboard.
Four or less and a mono gets the nod.

We chartered the 384 last summer and the Leopard 4300 the year before. The only bumpyness that we felt was when I decided to sail from Jost to Scrub on the North side of Tortola woohoooo we had 8 crew on each cat and I liked the 384 layout better. I'm going out on a new Leopard39/Moorings3900 this weekend, let you know how it compares.

39 will be no different beerman - its the same boat with some minor changes. Owners version, genset and hard top bimini for the helm. Completely the same otherwise.

we sailed the 384 in st martin last week - windy still - they say the christmas winds have not left, and big swells.
