We're flying to St. Thomas in November. From all that I've read about the BVI, Virgin Gorda and Anegada interest us the most (size, populations, snorkeling). We've been to St. Thomas (too crowded), St. John (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!) and St. Croix (worked with turtles but otherwise too busy). We love to snorkel!

From what I can figure, it makes the most sense to take the ferry from St. Thomas to Virgin Gorda (stay 3 nights) then ferry to Anegada (stay 3 nights) then ferry to Tortola (stay 1 night) and then ferry back to St. Thomas. Seems like a lot of traveling around - will likely have to rent cars on each island, find hotels on each, etc. Can anyone suggest anything that might be simpler?

Half tempted to just skip all of the planning and go to St. John again but would really like to visit some new islands!

Another option is to day trip it to Anegada....just not sure that it would give us enough time to truly experience the island.

That would be too much traveling around for me. Are you talking about this November, basically next month? You need to book accommodations soon, although November is still pretty slow.

I suggest arriving in STT on a day with a direct ferry to Virgin Gorda. Rent a house for a week. Do a day trip to Anegada, and maybe a day snorkel trip with Dive BVI or similar. Leave on a day with an early morning direct ferry to St. Thomas. Another option would be to take Speedy’s to Trellis Bay and fly InterCaribbean to STT (believe they’re starting Nov. 12).

Why not charter a boat?

Great idea....unfortunately, I'm not a fan of boats!!!! Get sea sick too easily!

Try guavaberry spring bay on virgin gorda. Great little cottages, great family run business, best beach with great snorkeling. Been going for years, they treat you like family.

If you can be on a lake in a boat, you can do a boat in BVI. Especially a Cat as much less motion. My suggestion for the novice is to do sea sickness prevention medication for 1st 2-3 days (beginning on flight down) such as scopolamine patch, which lasts for 72 hours. With this, I have never had anyone not enjoy being on boat in protected waters of the BVI.

I would agree with land based being Virgin Gorda and a day trip to Anegada or to Jost. I don't think I would try 3 islands in a week.

Yes, my wife gets seasick watching a movie with the ocean in it. She is fine on a cat in the BVI.

i have had way more people seasick on the ferry than the single person I have had sick on a cat in many times...skip Tortolla and cut Anegada to 2 days

Lol, what else? I don't think they're consumed that often in the BVI

But being on a boat will provide you everything you are wanting and less hassle. If you can ride the ferry or fly in a small plane you can do a boat. Take precautions like somebody said but I guarantee you will have the best vacation of your life. One of the best things about it is that you will not be tied to a schedule. Go where you want, when you want, and the snorkeling will always be just a few steps to the back of the boat.

My hubby jokes that I get sea sick in a bathtub! I was sick on a cruise in the Baltic Sea and also on a ferry in the Irish Sea. I'm not a fan of being on boats! I have been fine on the ferry between St. Thomas and St. John although it's only 20 minutes. Have been on cats in the Caribbean without a problem...as long as they are moving. Dramamine makes me feel horrible. I haven't tried the patch.

We're now thinking that we should just head to Virgin Gorda from St. Thomas and maybe take a day trip to Anegada - keep it simple!

I think that is a great idea...

IMHO please bring seasick prep for ferry from STT to VG and from VG to Anegada. Both of which are much longer than STT to STJ and can have higher seas as the wind is typically from an NE to easterly direction.

Earlier this year we flew to STT and then flew to Anegada for a week. The plane ride from STT to Anegada was amazing- loved every minute of it. Some might say a week on Anegada would get boring - not for us. Was a seriously relaxing and totally enjoyable vacation

I wholeheartedly agree with both points. The flight to Anegada is amazing. We spend a week two times a year on Anegada. Been doing that for the last 5 years. Not bored one single day.
