We used to fly out of Buffalo on JetBlue, changed planes in New York but they changed the flight times which meant a five hour layover on the return flight. We now fly direct out of Toronto on Westjet, they have some great deals and the flight times are fantastic.

We fly out of Buffalo a lot. Jet Blue and Delta are our airlines of choice. Especially to the Caribbean. We, too fly out of Pearson in Toronto but lately just for cross Atlantic flights to Europe. When it comes to least expensive you simply have to do the leg work regarding what time of year you are going, what days of the week you are open to flying, and so on. Buffalo/Niagara International is a medium sized airport that has some nice advantages. Park, Sleep & Fly hotels are literally right across the street form the terminal. You can cross the street at the traffic light and you're right there (or catch the hotel shuttle). Another advantage is that BUF is not too large nor too small which means there are no sky trains you have to catch with all departure gates conveniently located. While some airports have turned into glorified shopping malls with gates that are hard to find, BUF is a simple but efficient airport that has always served us well. Most recently we flew BUF to ATL to SXM and back with Delta and everything went perfect each way.

Quick note that back in March they were doing some exterior construction improvements to the main building and the droop-off and pick-up zones. So, you may want to inquire directly with the airport to check on the status of the construction and if they recommend allotting additional time when flying to and from here.

Our group of 8 are flying out of Buffalo in early November with Jetblue. Around $700. Buffalo - Ft Lauderdale to SXM and back through JFK on return. We preferred WestJet’s schedule and cost but they do not fly on Saturday and our villa has Saturday checkin. Jetblue has two departures back to Buffalo through Boston and JFK.. We would have preferred earlier departure through Boston but was $150 more per ticket. We have a long layover in NYC arriving in Buffalo after midnight. One of the airlines at Niagara Falls airport flys to SXM but not worth the risk as they have limited flights in and out of SXM. Cost is so unpredictable depending on time of year and when you book. Our flights are about $100 more than previous SXM visits

If you are getting by for just $100 over previous flights, you are doing pretty good.

Ruralcarrier I totally agree. We were happy with $700. We found $450–$500 flights years ago but those days are gone.

Yes they are gone unless you live in the metro NYC area. I am in the $820-$900 range with a connection and basically only one choice of carrier until AA gets their act together. This fare is for early Novebmer also.

Actually, we got $535 a person with Delta, but that was back in March. And, it was a Sunday to Sunday schedule. If we would have flown Tuesday to Tuesday it was as low as $478.

Just one thing for Sakislegirl is where you are coming from. If you are crossing from Canada the lines at the Peace Bridge have been especially long this year. I'd tack on an additional hour unless you are crossing the border after 8:00 p.m. in the evening.

It looks like a round trip ticket on AA next April leaving on Tuesday and returning on a Friday (10 night stay) is now $505 per person round trip. Add another $30 per person for a reserved seat.
