A 787 just lost part of one of its engines over Rome. Sorry the link is in Italian but the pictures are self explanatory. 787 has a long history of early metal fatigue with its engines. The plane landed safely back in Rome from where it had departed. I wonder what is going on at Boeing. https://roma.corriere.it/notizie/cr...32f0ea-bb8f-11e9-9f76-c4a17a124b8d.shtml

To zoom in on the problem it is the Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engine that some airlines hqve chosen to power the 787. It has gotten quite serious with numerous dual engine failers of the two engine 787.

The beautiful 747 has been parked infavor of 777, A350, and the 787. Evidently Rolls royce is havinga hard time mqking a reliable motore.

Yikes! Just took a 787 Dreamliner to-and-from Toronto to Munich last month with Air Canada and both eight-hour flights were flawless. Something like this never crossed my mind while we were crossing the northern Atlantic. Sure hope this wasn't one of the planes we were on! What airlines did you say this was? It's really up to their safety inspections to look for signs of metal fatigue and cracking and ground any plane accordingly. Maybe in the future we'll focus more on flights that use Airbus planes.

That is correct. Right from the beginning, there were problems with the RR Trent 1000. I believe that most of the "American" airlines that have the the 787's in their fleet use the GE GEnx-1B engines.

We recently flew a United 787 15.5 hours from Singapore to San Francisco. I just checked and Good thing it didn't have these Rollls Royce Trent 1000’s and good thing I wasn't aware of this issue or I might not have gotten onboard.

In general, all these motors are ultra reliable but that is why I like the old 747.

As for Air Canada 787, they do NOT have the Questionable Rolls Royce Trents.

West Jet's Dreamliners also use the GEnx engines
