Checking plane fare charges for next May from Richmond, VA to St. Thomas (ferry over to Roadtown) and
the price has doubled since our most recent trip. I thought I heard a rumor about ticket prices being
lower late night on a Tuesday, after midnight, I think. Is this correct or a big maybe? Any other advice
or info appreciated.

Just curious what pricing you’re seeing and which days you’re interested in traveling on? A quick search and I’m seeing prices between $400-600 with several options. It’s also still very early for booking that far out, you will probably see prices go down a little in a few months

I recently booked on United for February out of Dulles and it was $400 (non-stop).

Running into the same issue out of DC. The only direct flight out of Dulles Saturday to Saturday (May 9th-16th) is 1,400. Found a couple with stops through JFK and Philly for 400-500.

Seems that very early, they are asking very high... later prices fluctuate. I frequently will program "phantom" itineraries just to monitor their fare fluctuations on my likely legs. Put in dates for months ahead and track on google flights

I have gone down the last 3 Mays (and at other times during the year) from DC with destination Road Harbour and like the Jet Blue DCA to SJU early morning flight. They have a nice new plane. Cost last May was $350 RT PP

From SJU to EIS we have taken Seaborne, InterCarib, Cape, and most recently and Island Birds charter for 9. Cost ranges from $250 to 450 (private charter) RT PP. Note on private charter entry and exit tax aren't included in cost of ticket

DCA/IAD direct flight to STT is seasonal. We are going in October to STT and staying there and taking Delta down and Jet Blue back.

Pre hurricane we did STT and then ferry to RH but with hassle factor (ferry, STT airport etc) we go straight into SJU. I have been stranded in STT far too many times and SJU has more choices to get home or down.

For future flights will do Jet Blue and then private charter....

Thanks for all of the advice. google flights set up to help track. definitely don't plan on booking too soon, just a little bit of sticker shock as i start tracking the fares. We haven't been down to the BVIs in 7 years and moderately excited, even 11 months out, to get back.

I appreciate the heads up on Jet Blue through SJU. We've only taken the ferry out of STT and have been lucky enough to never have issues. We're bringing two couples who have never been to the BVIs, so its great having options.

I have had the opposite effect. The earlier I book the cheaper the fare. The past 6 trips I book as soon as American Airlines opens those dates. The last 4 times I was able to upgrade to first class for about $200 per person. Understand I go Saturday to Saturday because of my job. So I was paying about $700 PP for coach and then upgrade as I said. Having said that, it does not appear that is working out for me this time. Looking at May '20 I am seeing coach at $850 and first class at $1,250. These are direct flights from CLT to STT. I could cut the cost a bit if I want to leave my house at 5am and go through Miami. But I like that direct flight to STT and in most cases we get in a bit early. Once I retire I can then play with the dates and hopefully do much better.

Go Irish!!

Just to let everyone know Cape Air has canceled all 0736am flights out of SJU to Tortola until December 13.

Any ideas for now a 7 hour layover starting at 0330am?
