Looks like the Government initiated a control. Not sure if it is on the Ferries or the Vendors. More than likely it's the Ferry.

Can they really close an island? Must be the ferry service ... a strike or something. Let us know what you find out when you get more info.

Well a few years back before Irma they did close Yellow Beach down for improper permits but I suspect it is with the Ferry system as without the Ferry running there is not much need to open up the Pinel Vendors.

Didn't the ferry captains go on strike a few years ago?

Le Pélican (St. Martin Newspaper) is reporting the boat operators are protesting the controls carried out by the Gendarmerie yesterday. Story isn't online yet, I'll post a link once one comes available.

Actually what happened was that the ferries were stopped from doing the service as none of the boats has any life jacket plus the always carry more people that the max allowed on the boats. Also it was contested to them that they give out no receipts hence they pay no taxes whatsoever

Funny how it translates to them being smugglers.

I received a text this morning from Caribbean Paddling that Pinel Island will be back in business starting tomorrow!

The French word passeur has multiple meanings, and could be translated as either ferry or smuggler.
