While it’s not SABA, it’s darn close to being the next best thing! SABA has been mostly covered this week, will try next week Carol to get you a picture! Enjoy!

For the last few years it's a rare day that you can see Saba in February/March. Haze is persistent.

Thanks for the pictures! Were those taken from that zipline place by Emilio's? I see that Steve Job's yacht finally got repaired, that it was at sea.

I have a picture of Saba taken from Beachside, as my background screen on my computer at work. Can never get tired of looking at her! Hopefully you will be able to see her before you leave.

Yes Carol, it was from the zip line. The views up there are amazing, you stay up there for hours just looking around! And yes, Jobs yacht is up and running, it’s currently anchored in Simpson Bay right now doing sea worthiness trials. Watched them yesterday, a lot of fun watching that yacht cruise around.
Now as far as the zip line, let’s just say it’s now all the hype they make it out to be, but of coarse we are not afraid of heights or speed. It we got up the 35mph going down, I’ll be impressed. It is fun, but just not all the hype they push.

Carol,

Have you ever visited Saba? It’s a beautiful place to spend a day or two just limin’ - as you may have read over the years, we once did a packaged day-trip and were so taken with the island we did a stay-over a year or two later at the Queens Garden. We’re not hikers, snorkelers or divers but we still loved our stay there and think it’s one of the most relaxing places we’ve ever been.

Respectfully,

pat

That’s her I saw yesterday from our Villa. Where is she moored?

Pat I really want to do this one day, not into packaged day trips and also like you not into hiking etc, so wondered what we would do. Lunch at that one place everyone goes to, think it’s a hotel. Queens Garden? Rent a car? Not many shops to see I believe...Perhaps splurge out and charter a boat or plane. What would you suggest, think we corresponded on this before.

Bran,

Given what I’ve read about you and your spouse, I would book flights to and from Saba along with a stay-over of two nights at The Queens Garden Inn. Since I’m guessing mobility might be an issue I’d communicate directly with them about the appropriate room since many require climbing quite a few stairs, but if doable, the views are worth the stairs. There is a lovely pool nestled into the hillside where you can relax with a good book or two. The hotel management made arrangements for us to do a taxi tour one day and the other we did a walking tour. The museum was small but interesting and the scenery is incredible. Meals at QGI were part of the highlights of our stay-over though we enjoyed lunch in town and a Saturday night steak barbecue dinner at the Swinging Door Saloon which may or may not still be there.

We may have communicated about Saba before. I do love the place even though there are no beaches to speak of, no shopping worth mentioning and no party bars that we found. But that said, if you want to chill out and do some serious limin’ this - IMHO - is just the place to do it in. If you need action and activity - not so much.

Respectfully,

pat

Pat--No, we have never been there. When we are on SXM, we are so jealous of our time there, I've never wanted to 'waste' time visiting another island. We also never go for nearly as long as trips as you are able to enjoy, so that is part of it, I suppose.

SXMFox--I am EXTREMELY afraid of heights, so I doubt I will ever visit that spot. When we were in Europe, years ago, we took a ski lift up to the top of a mountain in Germany or Austria, can't remember which, and I almost had a heart attack going up. On the trip back down, I was literally crying. No, I doubt I will see that zipline deal on SXM..

Thx Pat....love my food as you know....returning in December so will look into this.

Carol, you and me both re heights. I literally have this urge to throw myself off when looking down from a great height. Wife calls it a form of madness, she might be right🤣

Carol,

I know what you’re saying as that was my excuse (justification?) for all those years we never went over. Kim and Lyndsey talked us into that first day-trip and because of the sheer beauty we knew we had to go back. I think the first time we did a full two week stay on zsXM we hollowed out two nights between our timeshare weeks and went. Haven’t been back since but someday .........

Leona,

Didn’t purchase any lace specifically but I did buy a lovely table runner with a lace edging. It’s beautiful. We also didn’t buy any Spice. Peoplectell us we don’t know what wecmissed but I still have a bottle of virtually untouched Guavaberry Liquor. Somehow, the guava coladas just don’t taste quite the same here in CT!

And Bran,

Also not a fan of great heights, or even moderate ones. I was the second person down the stairs on our last arrival at PJIA and made the mistake of looking down. I had dry heaves by the time I got to the bottom. But flying into Saba was an incredible experience and looking down to the water from the courtyard at QGI is, too.

Respectfully,

pat

And Bran, your photos from the peak of the new zip line are incredible but that is one island experience I will NEVER have, and the height issue has nothing to do with my reason. That property was not left to the island to become a for profit venue and was never meant to be developed as a tourist trap. It is beautiful though so I guess I will enjoy it through the photo exploits of others.

You are correct Pat, the property was left to be a nature Foundation as it was before in the beginning. Very sad, but it’s there now, no looking back. They inferred as if they were preserving the foundation grounds, in 20 years I would hate to see it!
