I know the Jamaica board here is not very active but thought I would pass along a bit of info that is been gathering momentum the last couple of days.

Allegedly, the new owners of Breezes Grand Negril announced they are NOT turning the resort into a family friendly Memories Resort, but they will be keeping the adult only format and turning it back into Grand Lido Negril (leveraging the historic name and brand), with the scuba and snorkeling included. Apparently they are still undecided if they will keep the cove clothing optional.

I am cautiously optimistic this rumor becomes reality and prayerful the cove remains CO. If the sorely needed funds are invested to restore the facility to what it once was, I think they have a viable market that is not being addressed in the Negril area. I have met many folks in recent years who miss the Grand Lido experience and would welcome an opportunity to return home.

Keep your fingers crossed...

Great news, if true! Here's to the return of the "Grand Yuppie"! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" /> I have a (very expensive) towel with the GL logo on it. Would love to see the Lidos return!

Yahoo that was our favorite place in Jamaica. We have been there 10 times in the last 15 years. Have always met great people at the c/o beach and still stay in contact. We were looking for another place to meet up this year. Hope they confirm CO beach will stay. the place needed some work when we were there last year but we still had a great time.

Well it appears the foundation of this story is true.

They are now answering the phone as Grand Lido, plan on keeping the cove C/O, and adding 200 rooms.

I am hard pressed to imagine where they are going to find room for 400 more people on their beaches. Occasionally the cove would be near capacity under the old construct, it would be tight with another 20 people (5% of expansion).

The other facilities (restaurants, pools, gym, etc) will also probably be stressed with the additional rooms/guests.

Promises to be interesting...

Adding 200 rooms? Where? Wow, are you sure? You wouldn't be taking us for a ride, would you?

A few years back Breezes took over a piece of land on the cliffs adjoining Point Village. Possible that they will expand on the cliffs.

Why...if you are financially strapped...would you add 200 rooms when you cannot fill the rooms you have? It would make more sense to make some of the empty rooms c/o...

Here is the press release ref the transition. They will remain adults only (although adult has been redefined as 16+ in lieu of 18+). Unfortunately it does not address the C/O area. That probably does not bode well for those that enjoy that kind of thing...

Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts Brings Back the Grand Lido Name,

Service and Style

Negril, Jamaica - April 23, 2013

Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts is pleased to announce the acquisition of Breezes Negril Resort & Spa, located in Negril, Jamaica, as of April 17, 2013.

Commanding one of the Caribbean’s most desirable locations, the all inclusive resort’s 210 premium rooms and suites will continue to welcome guests with no interruption to its renowned level of service.

“After much consultation with our tour operator and travel agent partners and based on feedback from loyal repeat guests, we are pleased to announce that the resort will continue offering many of the unique and friendly features that many of its guests have been accustomed to, including its extensive food and beverage program,” affirmed Jordi Pelfort, Managing Director of Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts. “Furthermore, the resort will remain adult focused and will continue to only accommodate guests over the age of sixteen.”

An enhancement process that will lead to a complete revitalization and renovation of this popular beach resort has now been fully planned and will be executed in stages over the course of the summer. There will be no disruption to the operation of the hotel or to its guests over this period.

Blue Diamond Hotels & Resorts is equally pleased to reintroduce one of the Caribbean’s most prestigious and well-known brands – Grand Lido. The Grand Lido brand has long been synonymous with top quality accommodation, round-the-clock attentive service, exceptional cuisine, and pristine tropical beaches. The former Breezes Negril Resort & Spa is the first resort to be re-launched under the Grand Lido brand and Blue Diamond is both honoured and proud to be entrusted with the preservation of these exceptional attributes.

This fine Jamaican hotel is eager to welcome old and new guests this summer and beyond. A complete fact sheet will be made available shortly at www.bluediamondresorts.com

The Hotel will in fact continue to operate a CO section as before and remain AO. The renovation will begin in the summer with light refreshing and within a year a major enhancement will begin.

We just booked five nights in August. I notice the booking page does clearly say that there is a clothing optional pool and beach, now. Has anyone stayed in the Deluxe Junior Suite Beach Front Cove? Is this a first-floor walk-out to the beach?

The cove suites are 2 stories so there are both first floor and second floor units.
Hope that helps.

Would recommend first floor on the cove suites. The balcony is practically useless on the 2nd floor and the 1st floor rooms make beach access very convenient.

I asked for first floor cove. We'll see if we get it. I can't help but believe occupancy will be pretty low in August, so they should be able to accommodate room requests.

When Superclubs owned it, there was a no-tipping policy. Is that policy still in place or what are people doing about tipping at Grand Lido these days?

Interested in hearing nakednomads perspectives. I am about to book our trip for next month and am leaning towards postponing our Grand lido Negril experience until 2014..
