I worry that there will be road blockages if this happens.

Anyone on island will just have to go with the flow. Strikes were threatened while we were on island and fortunately we never ran into a road block.

It just depends on how bad the road blocks are, IF there are any. I recall some really ugly scenes a year or two ago at roadblocks, people missing their flights, etc.. Also, would it apply to garbage workers, for instance?

Spent 27 months in France and learned that when they set up a roadblock nothing passes. Gendarmes will not make them take things out of the way.

Actually they just did. Some of these same folks were striking several weeks ago. They had a tent set up on the side of the road along the French runway. For days they were there, but off the road and peaceful. Then one day they headed to the streets and they were made to stop.

Yes, I remember that they did make them move recently, but as Bob_Dot said, that is not the usual situation, in the past anyway. And I believe this one is supposed to be all public workers? Is that how you read it Elaine?

Well with many going to SXM for Easter Vacation this should be interesting. Hopefully it will be resolved by Easter Sunday!

Sounds like it, but I don't understand all the French agencies affected.

After the "Carbet strike" a few years ago, we started visiting other islands again and cut back our SXM vacations to one a year. We leave Sunday for a few weeks visit. Seems like we need to make the best of this trip - it'll be our last if this strike proves meaningful. IMHO, this island is simply incapable of self governance. Health care, education, roads, infrastructure, tourism, etc, etc are all sadly being neglected.

I remember the carbet strike a few years back. I was on the outskirts of it but a frantic call from friends blocked in a road closure with burning cars. We drove as close as we could and they left their rental car and walked to our car. We brought them back to Princess Heights after a nice dinner on the Dutch Side.

So if people are going from the airport to the ferry dock to go to Anguilla, this may impact them, correct? What about on the return, same thing? How long do these strikes usually last, or is there no telling?
Thanks for any info.
