I know this thread probably belongs in the charter boat review and question section, but I think I have a better chance of getting an answer here. Mods - feel free to move it if you must.

We are looking to book a cat this summer for a two week charter in the Leewards. One boat that has caught my eye is the Bavaria Fly 46. On paper they seem like nice boats (at least for charter), but trying to see if anyone has any first hand experience on one. Reports hat I could find online of the early models report some quality control issues, but I haven't heard if they had gotten those taken care of or not. We've previously been on a Voyage and a FP Saba 50, but mostly various Lagoons so that is my reference point. Just looking to change things up a bit and maybe eek out a bit more performance, but don't want a boat that's going to disappoint.

Thanks for any input!

Matt

We have a 46 Fly in the fleet now. It has done three or four charters already. It seems like a much larger boat. It drafts more than a traditional cat and seems to point pretty well because of it. The sail and bridge are way up in the air. The salon is huge for a 46. As is the cockpit and bridge area.

Thanks for the reply Captain Jay. Not sure if you think it seeming large is a positive or negative, but all else being equal I'll consider it a positive being it's a charter boat and we won't be crossing oceans on it. That said, I don't love the super tall fly bridge and would prefer the Open 46 version, but this was all that was available.

I just put the boat on hold for a June one-way charter Guadeloupe to St. Martin. Just need to see if the schedules and flights can all align to make it happen.

Thanks again!

Matt
