I went by La Playa beach bar today and some work was going on there
There was a crew of 6, only one was actually working doing some demo on the top of the bar counter, the others seemed mostly figuring out what to do next.
But it’s good to at least see something happening.

Absolutely good news. More beach bars equal more people and that's a winning combination. Glad they're back at this and planning to return.

And more competition. Maybe that will bring down the $30.00 price for 2 loungers and umbrella.

Good to hear something is going on there. Did you ask them when they thought it might be open?

Great news! Pretty sure that La Playa will be our go-to beach venue now that Dreams is gone.

No, I didn’t ask. They seemed to be mainly a work crew with a few supervisors and quite frankly, they didn’t seem to have a clear plan of action.
But at least something is happening.

Also Bruno and Thomas were basically leasing (or the St Martin equivalent).
So even if/when it reopens, there is no guarantees that they will run itt.
Although, we’ve been going there for 20 years, and they far and away were the best so I’m rooting for them.

Wow, ok. I didn't know that. I thought they had some ownership in the hotel??

We always enjoyed going to La Playa on the beach prior to Irma. Is the new La Playa going to be the same ownership as before?

La Playa the hotel, owned the La Playa the beach bar space.
They then Leased it ( or whatever the St Martin equivalent is) to someone who operated it.
The best of course was when Bruno an Thomas ran it.
See my thread on Coco Beach vs La Playa for a little more info

Yes.
For years in the past it was operated by the Hotel. The hotel was then called Le Hoste.
When the new owners came in, they decided to have someone else run the beach bar. The new owners then also changed the name of the hotel to La Playa

It's my understanding that Bruno and Thomas will still be operating both the hotel and the beach bar.

I actually thought they were partners in both businesses and were the actual owners. Bruno said they hope to be open later this summer if all goes as planned.

Very bizarre considering the bars on both sides of them are huge and have been up and running for a couple of months.

I tried to book a room at La Playa. I am traveling to St Martin in May. It was not available to book. You can book a room now at La Playa beginning July 1. Their web page says the bar will be open at that time also.

I don’t understand why if your going to a beach bar to eat and drink why they charge anything for a chair or umbrella. I don’t pay extra when I go to a normal restaurant to sit at a table. We go to The s Boon Beach Bar At Mary’s Boon Beach Hotel and beach chairs and umbrellas are FREE For customers and it’s really fun and great food. Just wish I was there today. 😂

I believe that Bruno and Thomas have been concentrating on getting the hotel reopened. The bars on either side are just beach bars, and are not actually connected to hotels so all their owners had to worry about was the bar/restaurant.

Extreme is Correct, Buildinvest owns LaPlaya.
As much as I love Bruno and Thomas, they do not have any ownership interest in La Playa.
