It is possible that they are in the process of being delivered to AA as American Eagle uses Embraer jets and they are built in Brazil. Doubt if they have the range to make the flight in a single leg.

They’re going to FLL, then DFW, and then ABI (Abilene). Sounds like a delivery to me.

Correct, they have done this before. SXM is just a stopping point.

They’re called Heritage Liveries, and have a paint job remiscent of an airline which American acquired. There are at least 6 of them. The only two that I have personally seen have been the TWA and the Piedmont liveries.

The Embraers "jungle jets" are new deliveries to AE.

You saw a heritage livery on the 738. Cool. All airlines do them. British Airways just announced the last for the 100th year.

Oh man, I remember flying BOAC into Jamaica decades ago. My memory is foggy, but I think I rode a BOAC 747 from London into Mo Bay.

Adding to my Delta theme, they have Western, Northwest and they bought Pan Am’s Europe routes (not the same as the whole airline I guess).. United bought the Pan Am Pacific routes.

I saw a United Friendship (You Know Barbie Stewardess paint job) last week in Chicago.
