United airfare for November is price prohibitive from Newark. Even though it has come down in the past 2 months, it's still above $800. per person.

Again, why does it HAVE to be Newark? If you really want to go, you can find lots of choices for MUCH less money. We routinely drive 3.5 hours one way to Miami..

And I just paid within $50 of that for a March trip and also a November trip. For that I also get to connect and spend most of the day traveling. You also have more options (airlines and airports) from your area than most others anywhere in the US. It is only "price prohibitive" as people are used to $500 or less for non-stop air that arrives early in the day. It is not the end of the world.

I’m no expert, but it looks like for $30 per person you can take a bus from Newark to JFK and save yourself a ton of money. We drive from RI to JFK and overnight there for less than the airfare from our local airport.

Have been checking for the week after Thanksgiving for the last couple of months. Houston to SXM. American is the best way for us, the price hasn’t changed, $1350 per person RT!!! That is just robbery. Looks like we might have to do IAH-FLL on SWA, then Jet Blue from FLL to SXM. Will have to spend the night in FLL on the outbound because the flight to SXM leaves early in the morning.

Arc, consider flying IAH-SJU, and then connecting to SXM on Seaborne. It might work, it might not, but it's worth a look.

Arc - that is what we are doing in May - Austin to Ft. Lauderdale on Southwest, overnight in Ft. Lauderdale, then Jet Blue Ft. Lauderdale to SXM - doing the same thing on the way back to Austin - Jet Blue had a fantastic price for May. Hope it works out for you.

I guess $800 might be considered cost prohibitive in the Northeast where fares are always so cheap and plentiful. From Charlotte, we're happy to pay $800. The planes are always full of people from the North and Midwest connecting through CLT who paid far less.

It is what it is - we're just happy to go to SXM and don't worry about the rest.

Ouch and guilty. We just booked out of Richmond, VA through Charlotte for $310 a ticket. However, the money we saved on airfare is more money we can spend on the island.
