Heard on another thread that a Super U was going to be opening at Hope Estates? Is there a supermarket there right now?
Thanks

NO! ... no Supermarket ... something is being re-built there but it does not look as if it's a supermarket of any sort.

I saw they have a small market in Cul de Sac called Cocci Market. That's close to Hope Estate.
Does anyone have experience with it?

Yes, Cocci is a very nice, but small market. On the idea of Petit Casino. They carry produce, meats, frozen foods, beverages, household items, most everything that you would need.

Runnernreader--I thought there was something open there in Hope Estate, at least with some minimal groceries? (not Petit Casino or Cocci...) Maybe not..

Yes,there are a couple of small shops down Cul de Sac and we have them used them over the past 20 years or so.... they're convenience stores
But in the Hope Estates there is a market called the HOPE MARKET and they have just about anything you need at reasonable prices; it's like a corner store with more "stuff". Lots of American Stuff, if you need American Stuff.
Further ..we use LEADER PRICE ( http://www.ccmvsxm.com/?lang=en#sectionboutiques!loading) which is nearby as well and I include from an earlier post asking about champagne ...... "In France, Leader Price, is considered the place that French Locals buy their booze. Leader Price is reopened and right across from the Cadissco gas bar nearby! Their stock in years past varies from day to day, week to week, but we've always found the booze of all kinds there reasonable .... at times, cheap. I walk there from Mont Vernon in 18 minutes and my backpack holds 6 bottles of wine .....!!!!!" One of my favourite white wines there is ALICE ... from Pays d'OC, Sauvignon Blanc @ 3.99 Euros a bottle!!!!
We've just spent the last 5 weeks at Mont Vernon ... with a car for one day to shop at Carrefour ..and then, another car for a week ..and then nothing .......SO ...for most of the time, I've been using Leader Price ...I've become the consummate French Shopper (our son lived in France ...and we visited often and got very acclimated to daily shopping). Leader Prices has daily baking, roasted chickens, charcuterie, lots of frozen meats and basic needs (follow a French shopper ..for the best buys), and a good variety of produce (not everything, every day ..but lots over the course of several days).
Try it .. all the locals buy there!

OK, thanks. I thought there was something there. I think I was thinking of Leader Price. Do you consider that Hope Estates, or not? I was never quite clear what IS Hope Estates and what is not..

Carol Technically, it's (Leader Price) in the Centre Commercial Mont Vernon ...(website: http://www.ccmvsxm.com/?lang=en#sectionboutiques!loading).
It's south? of the Cul De Sac roundabout as opposed to North of the roundabout for Hope Estates( the new Grand Maison Store [kind of a Home Depot] is in Hope). "Grand Maison" should map out for you on Google
There are only about 6 or 8 stores there. It's almost across from Cadissco GAS.
I hope I haven't further confused the whole issue!

OK, thanks. I know where the Cadissco is. As I said, I wasn't sure where Hope Estates is supposed to start and stop. We are going to be staying close to Grand Case in June, so will probably check it out in person then.

Leader Price sounds great. One question, can we buy everything we need there in terms of groceries? Is it a full service supermarket?
Thanks

We heard from our landlord that it is going to be a Super U and will be open in April. There is a lot of construction going on there now but it doesn't look as if it will be done by April. We have not had much sucess at Leader Price this trip. However between Hope Market and the store at the Cadisco gas station as well as Petite Casino we have found everything we needed. The wine selection at Cadisco is excellent.

Hmmm, I thought from this thread that Leader Price was directly across from Cadisco gas station? Cadisco gas station sells wine?

YES, Carol they do ...but limited American brands .....
On the other hand, you can get a 700 ml bottle of generic French gin for 3.99 Euros or a 700ml bottle of Polish Vodka for 3.85 Euros .... if you're gonna mix it, do you need premium?
Pastis (anise-flavoured spirit ) is 2.99 Euros for a litre at Leader Price and over $30 CND at home. I mention this because my son learned to drink this in France and when he got to LP on his last visit, he thought he'd gone to heaven.

Thanks. I do have to have premium brands in liquor though. I drink Bacardi, preferably Limon, and Eric drinks Tanqueray (only!!!)

Limon is the lazy way to always have lime in your drink. ![toast toast](/images/graemlins/default/toast.gif) It goes really well with diet 7-up!

I used to do Diet Pepsi for years, until I discovered the caffeine prevents me from sleeping! Anyway, IF anyone is there otherwise, would appreciate your checking to see if they have Bacardi Limon and Tanqueray there at Leader Price..

I have not seen name brand liquors at Leader Price but they do carry premium liquors at Cadisco. The next time we do a wine run I will check. Friends of ours who stay at Bruno's accomodations told us about Cadisco. Bruno told them that the wine selection was excellent and well priced. We cincur with him.

We stopped at Hope Market last July to pick up some items like beer and paper towels midway through our vacation. I’m trying to recall but I’m almost certain they had a long wall of liquors.
They had all the basics that most of us would require. We noticed an item that we purchased earlier at Super U and it was noticeably cheaper at the Market. I remember discussing about maybe doing our groceries there this year but the meat selection didn’t look very appetizing.

OK, thanks! Just trying to decide whether to try to do our first day shopping in that area, or go back to Super U, after we drop off our bags. I think we will try it, as it wouldn't be the end of the world if we didn't have liquor--so long as we have wine! ![grin grin](/images/graemlins/default/grin.gif)

Yes they have name brand hard liquors. Bacardi for sure not sure about Bacardi Limon. There is a new wine store beside Hope Market called Totem. More high end but excellent selection.

pandp and Ollie--Thanks and thanks. This trip, we're not planning to spend much time on the Dutch side at all, so French side options are best, for now.
