We're returning to SXM in June after a one year hiatus... have not seen anything written about Baie Longue (one of our favorite beaches). Is the same parking area available? Debris in the water? Any info would be appreciated.

The last time we tried to go to the beach it had a gate up. How do you get to the beach now?

Coming from Cupecoy travel about a mile towards Sandy Ground. At bottom of hill on the left there's a manned Gendarme gate....they will wave you thru.

We haven't been there in years, but I remember a gate and a guard to get into La Samanna but thought we turned right to go to the beach right before the guard shack? In any case, if there is a guard shack that you must pass through to get to the beach, that would be terrific. Thugs used to pilfer the cars parked in the beach lot. One time we encountered them right before they were going to break into our car. Kind of scary. The beach is BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Once you turn right at La Samanna there is a gate that is locked but no guards. It’s good to know you can go to the other end and get in where they police it.

OK, I don't think we ever went in that way. We always went in on the road to La Samanna. Good to know there is another way in with guards. Am I understanding this correctly?

We had always gone in by La Samanna also but the other poster said to go in the other gate. It’s over closer to the entrance to Baie Rouge

In the past we always entered at the guarded gate between Baie Rogue and La Samanna. We then drove around past Plum (and Trump's place) around to the Baie Longue side. We always parked in the small parking area before the road ends. We never had a problem there, but were unsure if that way in remained the same after Irma.
