Anyone know what's going on with LaPlaya? I think I heard they were not going to open as planned in May. Any updates? I'm interested in the restaurant, not the hotel. Thanks.

Carol, we are in St Martin now but I can't remember what La Playa had for a restaurant before Irma. Was it on the beach and just beside Bikini Beach?
If so, there is no new construction at that location yet.

I think they're referring to the beach bar & restaurant reopening in July. If my memory is correct, this was the place with the gray and white beach chairs before you reached Waikiki. There was also a beach front hotel at one time, but I'm not sure what became of that. People sometimes confused it with La Plantation hotel which was further inland. La Playa was close to the Palm Court hotel as I recall.

Laplaya was just past the new bikini in the old bikini location prior to Irma.

No haven't seen him yet but I can report that the hotel is still being worked on. What is already completed looks great. The hotel will be pretty much a total rebuild. as far as the beach restaurant nothing is being done. Plenty of rumors as to what is happening but I'll not repeat them. Orient Bay is humming along and aside from Club Orient and Sun hotel where nothing is being done the area will be back in form soon.
