My wife and I are going to be in SXM next week on a cruise and wanted to know which beach clubs have reopened and the cost of chairs and umbrellas. We spent a week in Orient two weeks before Irma hit and have been back once on a cruise and purchased chairs from Cedrick at Perch Lite. I think we read that Bikini, Kon Tiki and Kakao have reopened. Any help would be appreciated. This cruise trip is with kids and Grand Kids.

Perch lite end of beach they are 2 chairs & 1 umbrella for $20. Bikini, Kontiki & Kakao are $30 for the same unless something has changed recently. Enjoy your family time!

You are correct, those are the ones that are open now. From my understanding the other three charge $30 for 2 chairs and an umbrella, and the Perch Lite charges $20. If you're going to the Perch, best to try to get there early, as I understand they do sell out of chairs sometimes. Enjoy!

The $30 chairs are much more comfortable and have thick pads. If comfort is not a priority, the $20 chairs are fine especially if you are spending most of your time in the water. I have always found the chairs at Club O very uncomfortable when spending an entire day there. I understand Cedric got some new chairs, but still no pads. I love Cupecoy Beach but the chairs there are uncomfortable too.

Good info on the chairs. thanks. We used to rent from Pedro and are looking for the same sort of substantial lounge "beds," not just collapsible folding chairs we could take with us. Whom do you suggest? And since Pedro's bathroom is gone, what is the potty availability situation, please?! Looking forward to 3 weeks in May.

You will find nice bathroom facilities at the places that charge $30 for the chairs and good beach service for food and drinks there as well.

Are there any of those in the old clothing optional area or are they just in the topless area?
I appreciate the help. I also think you are the bravest, most wonderful woman I've encountered on any forum. You screen name suits you. I bet your special man was watching over you from above while you were on the island and helping orchestra the good times, the meetings with friends, the resurgence of memories. May those great memories sustain you and nurture you throughout a great life. Blessings.

The three places that have reopened -- Kontiki, Bikini Beach and Kakao -- would all be located on the upper portion of Orient Beach, or as you referred to the 'topless' area. Perch Lite would be in the clothing optional section of the beach. Always a smart idea to ask about bathroom facilities before paying for your chairs & umbrella!

Thank you for your kind words. The chairs in the old Club O section are not padded chairs but OK if you put a couple of thick beach towels on them.

We always take our own chair pads that we found online - big difference. We also take them to the pool at our local Y, where the chairs are even worse - hard plastic. There are also a few blue chairs for rent, also in the c/o area near the rocks, and they are padded. But, I don't know what the cost is.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.
