So .. we've been on the beach the last three weeks and the estimates of CLUB O participants have been sketchy at best ... (been here for over 20 years!!!)
SO ....today the count ..and YES I counted .... at 1:00 P.M ....approx 100 Yellow Umbrellas ..with at least two chairs EACH!
AND .... and I'm guessing here but I think at least 1/2 again umbrella with double chairs!
We're happy here ..and the numbers are GREAT ...!
(On the other hand ... I don't believe that the TOTAL Number of Occupants on the Whole beach match that of those at CLUB O today ... or another other day over the last couple of weeks! ...and I walk the whole beach at least once every day.
COME TO ORIENT..it's FANTASTIC!

Cedric has been a "Beach Boy" for about 20 years .... and has taken over the last few years as the Captain of Orient Beach beach set up! ... Since IRMA, Cedric has been central in the RE- organization of the Beach patrol at CLUB O. Ask the peeps on the beach and they"ll show his face ... NO PIC!
AND .... Cedric has been celebrated as the Champion of a group of young men in Marigot ...with his Baseball for underpriviliged young islander!

Another Cedric note: Jeff Berger reported on his FB page that several days ago there was a visitor openly shooting photos, not of scenery but of guests. Cedric approached the guy, politely told him to stop, told him several more times, and a heated argument ensued. Cedric grabbed the camera, threw it to the ground, the guy picked it up and resumed. Cedric once again grabbed the camera, threw it against a tree, breaking it. By this time several of Cedric's helpers had showed up and after some more words were exchanged the guy gave up & left. Thank you, Cedric.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

I read that too. No need to destroy someones camera over a few pictures.

Scubaman--You want to get another Club O thread locked, I guess? This one will have a VERY short leash..

No. I just don't think violence or property destruction is a solution to any situation.

Cedric asked politely. Had this guy simply left quietly or put his camera away at that point he'd still have his camera. There was bad behavior involved, but it wasn't on Cedric's part.
I really don't understand why this is such a difficult concept for some.

I agree Jenni. It all boils down to decency and courtesy.
Many years ago if someone who worked in an industry where naturism was not understood and was at the Club O section of Orient Beach didn't have too much concern. I base this on the fact that someone would have had to get the film developed at an adult store or discrete photo shop. Then there was no real way for those pictures to be readily visible other than the possible submission to certain publications. Fast forward a few years and now that same person can have his or her photo pasted from a cameraphone to the entire world in a nanosecond.
Not only are there people in sensitive work positions but there may be people who have friends +/or family that may not be in favor of their activity and maybe they just don't want others to know. In my last visit I met a couple who have grown adult children that don't know of their attendance at the Club O beach. They tell their kids a different reason for their trips to SXM. I would bet they would not grant these photos to be taken much less distributed on some website worldwide.
Somewhere I remember someone posting that French law does not allow photographing another without that person's permission. Unlike US law that states people have no expectation of privacy in a public place or a place open to the public, French law states otherwise.
I am not a lawyer nor did I stay in a Motel 6 so I don't know what the actual law in France is but common courtesy and decency would rule that if someone asks a person to stop taking photos they should stop. I am not condoning destroying someone's property however I also don't want my "Irish" all over the net and I'm sure my wife wouldn't her nekkid photo all over the world.
If it is a consensual matter then no problem. I know on my next trip I will take a few snaps of my wife but she consents and we don't post our photos. Just my .02 and I hope this doesn't cause the thread to be shut down.

The key words: "Common courtesy and decency". Should be enough.

Dont want to irritate Carol again but if you've read any of my posts you know how I feel about it. Scuba is right, to a point, the use of force is not the way to go. Ive never had to resort to it in those situations. I can be pretty convincing without actually having to use force. I can only imagine the " gentleman " in question gave Cedrick no choice. 12 days and counting Cheers

Sadly, there will always be those that feel the rules or regulations do not pertain to them. Perhaps the reason they continue to think this way is that no one has challenged their attitude with consequence. Maybe if someone chose to steal money from you on the beach or would damage your car and drive away you would be less understanding of their wrong doing.
Most of us know the difference between right and wrong. Maybe this jerk needed this level of response to get the message after more peaceful means failed but I doubt that he would have been receptive to your "convincing counseling".
Hope your vacation is enjoyable on our favorite island, safe and without any unpleasant incident.

Cedric is raking in the money and maybe would think about hiring security for his patrons? i always thought that club orient security handled cameras and beach goers with the right amount of authority. The official uniform gave them a respectful reaction from those they needed to approach.

Since we have resorted to calling someone a "jerk", we are now done.
