Day 16 - Started off with a heavy rainstorm including thunder. Good though, the Island is very dry. After the customary croissants it was off to the Rambaud area to visit long time SXM friends Paul and Carol. After catching up a little and almost being noon it was decided to go to a lunch favorite of Paul and Carol's, O'Plongeoir in Marigot. Betty and I split a Chicken Caesar Salad. On the way home Betty and I decided we needed a Carousel ice cream. Got a buck off the cost using my Magic of the Caribbean card. Dinner tonight was at Snoopy's. Our waitress, Elizabeth, also served us last night at Hole In The Wall. She even remember what I ordered. That's pretty impressive considering the number of people on Friday night. We split a Fish and Chips($23.).

Norm--guess you are counting down to the last couple of days! Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us. I note that you are sharing meals with Betty on occasion. I wonder, have you been charged a plate splitting fee, as I know some restaurants do that.

Carol - Bill and I frequently share a meal and have never had to pay a fee. I will add that we don't really go to the higher priced places that many frequent, so perhaps in that atmosphere....

OK, thanks. Perhaps it is at higher end places. I have heard it mentioned before. We often share an app or a soup or a dessert, but not an entre. Never been charged in SXM for sharing, but haven't shared an entre..

I love that you two split meals! We’re the same. This way you can sample many different places every day without breaking the wallet or wasting food. But I won’t split my wine 😂. Thanks for your posts! Have a safe trip back.

At Mark's Place we've shared an entree and enough left for lunch the next day.

As Bill and Elaine, we have not been charged for splitting, but also like them don't really go to high end places. We were at Art in the Park fairly early, and at Mark's for lunch.

We went to Mark’s Place on recommendation from this forum in November and were disappointed. I had lasagna & my husband had the mushroom chicken. We are here now & would give it another try. The seafood pasta would be good for my husband but I don’t like seafood, what would you suggest? I know people recommended the ribs but my favorite are Jimbo’s so I am looking for something else. Thank you for any recommendations.

Sorry, can't help. Almost without fail, I will order some kind of seafood when we are out. I have heard they do a great steak, but no first hand experience.

I have had the ribs at Mark's Place several times and they are excellent. I have not had them at Jimbo's so you might want to compare. smile

Not sure what way Jimbo's prepares their rib's but Marks are the fall off the bone tender type. They also do a mean Rib Eye steak, Paired with their famous scalloped potatoes, oh my.

We have had his "specials" lamb dinner and his goat stew. Fantastic! My fave, his whole fried red snapper, to die for.

SandS.....I have enjoyed a couple of very good veal parms at Mark's Place. I love shellfish, but don't do regular fishes...so usually end up with some type of ''meat'' dish.

Norm. Did you have a preference between your two accommodations? Loved your daily reports. I always rely on your restaurant reviews!

Mark's Place has always had a decent burger if that interests you or I would consider something off of their specials board. Ribs are tasty and falling off the bone any time I have had them but I do not know how they compare to Jimbo's. Hope you have a better experience this time.

Hey Norm! Great reporting for your entire trip. When you started here in St. Maarten, we were in the states and are now in Mont Vernon. We also had a deluge with thunder and lightning. Don't believe I have ever experienced the thunder here much less lightening in all of the years traveling to this favorite island.

Agree. This is probably only the second time I have heard thunder in SXM.

The year Irma hit while we were there in May there was a thuder storm so vicious it was unbelievable. The storm was right on top of us and there were multiple lightning strikes all around us. Very unsettling.

We ate at Mark's several times when we were on the island in Dec/Jan. Lisa thought the lamb was fantastic. I had some great steaks. Even a simple burger and fries is a winner and as stated the ribs are very good.

Yes, Elizabeth is a sweetheart!

Where is Art in the Park?

We are going to have to split some meals, since I can't eat large portions. I'm happy to hear
that more people do it......
