What tips/advice can any give me? Staying at the Live Aqua all inclusive, and this is a r&r bake in the sun vacay.

I would consider taking the ferry to Isla Mujeres, rent a golf cart and tour the island, have lunch on the South end then have drinks on the North End. Rough day that!

I think we will try to get off the beaten path a bit. My fiance has never been on a vacay with palm tress and sand in her life, so I am looking forward to spoiling her.

She also considered marine biology as a field of study, so I definitely want to take her snorkling.

When you arrive ignore everyone outside of customs, just walk outside where your ride will be.

In Cancun everyone is trying to sell you packages or timeshares. "I will give you a free XYZ for coming to our presentation". Just say no, these presentations take longer than they say and you will get a hard sell.

We love that area, you just have to know to say NO.

I know you are at AI, but unless there is premium booze, you might grab a bottle of your favorite at Duty free outside of Immigration.

Yep. Don't slow down or make eye contact. They will offer all sorts of advice, freebies, rides, maps, "tourist" info, etc. My parents travel to PDC frequently gave me the heads up.

Because I will not allow anyone to waste my vacation time, I had no problem charging through and ignoring them but I could easily see how a nicer person or an inexperienced traveler could get trapped by them.

The going rate for listening to a "presentation on fractional ownership" is; breakfast, $200us, one day A/I, two bottles of booze, two tee shirts, taxi ride home and a blanket.

Don't know how long you will be there, but if you don't mind renting a car (driving in Mexico is not that bad) I would recommend going south to Playa and even to Tulum. When you get out of Cancun life really slows down. Lots to do and see and the beaches in Tulum are great.
Playa is about 30 -45 minutes from the airport and Tulum maybe another 45 minutes. Worth the effort

You can just say "gracias, but no" and keep walking through the airport exit and you'll be fine.
If you want to experience PDC and points further south you really should stay down there for a few days to get the full experience then stay in Cancun. It's too far a drive to enjoy as you would staying there. You will find excellent advice on the PDC forum for resort or boutique options as well as excursions in the PDC area. And driving isn't bad If you learn the signs but do get full insurance covage either through your cc or out of pocket (most travel insurance and cc rental insurance is not recognized in Mex). PDC is a busy area now, points south (Tulum) are still quieter but getting busier.

When staying in Cancun we took the snorkeling/Isla Mujeres combo tour with friends last year and the snorkeling off the North shore of Isla was good.
We also took the 2-person power boats out of the lagoon a few years ago, through the mangroves and out to the reef for great snorkeling.
