So, after 12 days, most involving the Club Orient Beach, the best way I could describe it is “ the Lemmings continue to return to Club Orient Beach”.
We’ve only stayed at New Years and June plus some 1 day cruise stops in between.
But each day there were more people (lemmings) we already met or we recognized each others faces including normal faces from June. They (the lemmings) just kept showing up. It was amazing to see how many devoted fans (lemmings) kept arriving. Some diehards (lemmings)in the past we only saw for one day - cruise ship visit perhaps?
The beach is largely the same with some differences.
When the resort is open it seemed many folks would get into groups (cliques) either before/after arrival or based on where they were sitting. Now the place is less clique. Folks we never talked with as they seemed busy in their groups were now friendly to us. They werent unfriendly before, they were just occupied with their group.
Clarification: clique here not a bad word. Like scheme in england is a plan.
No assigned chairs of course, but we ended up in same area.
Most of this trip you couldnt walk in front of the chairs in the surf so you had to walk behind the chairs. That changes the dynamic a bit. Last few days you could and is much better.
Thanks to Cedrick and crew for keeping the chairs straight and the Yellow Umbrellas open for all us lemmings.
We shall return!

As a devoted" Lemming" , I and my friends will be back to our favorite beach in a couple of weeks. We are a large and diverse group from all over the US and Canada. Definitly not a clique ! Cheers

I love the 'lemmings' inference! What a good post. And, I agree with the assessments you have made. This is just my opinion, but SXM simply gets in your blood. For many of us it is by far our favorite Caribbean Island, and combines so many of the things that we enjoy when the need to get away arises. Of course, I would love to see Club Orient return. But, if it does not then controlled development along Orient Beach with the addition of 'Ibiza-style' beach bars would be a nice touch. By this, I mean places like Sa Trinxa and Malibu Beach Club where you have a full restaurant and bar with both patio and indoor seating, chair and umbrella rentals, sections for those who bring their own beach chairs, etc., and a relaxed dress code for dining for any places 'south of the rocks'. Not with crazy loud music blaring non-stop, but places where everyone from different age groups could mix and lure the next generation back year-after-year.

The 1st time we actually stayed at Club Orient, someone (Jolene) from one of those "cliques" noticed us & invited us to their yearly hot dog cookout on the beach. It was in July, during family month, and that group would meet there every year. Good food, good drink, good people. One of those lemming joys.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

You are walking behind the chairs because the surf/water has eroded away more of the beach than in the past? Our last time there, Feb. 2017, the sand under the stairs of the Perch had been washed away...…..I assume the area is eroded more now? I do realize the Perch is no longer there.....

Au Contraire, the beach is mega-wide now. The walking behind was due to the sea weed at the surf line. Much had washed away and last week folks were doing the usual feet in the water stroll.
