I am new to travel talk online so please let me know if I am posting in the wrong place. I am looking for recommendations for sailing charter companies that do by the cabin trips. My husband and I are interested in 7 day trip in November 2019 ( dates flexible). We are not experienced sailors. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Pamyk, we are just like you two. No experience. We were looking hard at Festiva. I believe less than $4k for the week all inclusive. Their boats looked good and big enough for alone time. But we opted to splurge this year and instead will get a crewed boat. Definitely more expensive. But what the hell, you only live once. We are sailing Nov ‘19 as well. 16th thru 23rd. If you are there then let us know. Love meeting TTOL’ers while in the BVI’s. Planning the trip is half the fun too. This board has great info and lots of followers who are more than helpful.

Yesterday I met two ladies who were doing the shared cabins on Dream Yacht Charters. They had no idea who their boat mates would be, but were keen to give it a try!

We generally bare boat and , no longer with other people, just with just Erica and Myself. 36 ft. monohull.

But, two years ago, we did the separate cabin , with skipper and cook/crew sailing the GREEK ISLANDS. And, I mean SAILING a 60 ft monohull, not motoring .

We wanted to do some of the sailing and crew duties since we love it., others just wanted to kick back.

Why a paid by cabin cruise for two weeks instead of bare boating on our own ?. 1. I do not read greek 2. I do not speak greek 3. We were totally unfamiliar with Greek Islands, and zero local knowledge . Called Posieden Charters . Glad we did.

We were spoiled silly by Sheron, who was the cook, and the crew for the capt. , And a certified skipper in her own right. My kind a gal. She was wonderful, and worked very hard , and still had time to talk with the six passengers, who we met on board. The captains were excellent , and highly skilled, and great personalities.

Erica and I shared helm time, and hauling up and dowsing the sails, handling sheets, and halyards, helped with med moor anchoring, etc.

We did eat dinner ashore, in private , or a group. We had a fabulous PIRATE PARTY, where we all got outfitted like pirates, then ashore, on the way to the restaurant, at a marvelous viewpoint, each crew /passengers ( four boats ) did skits, and sang songs, The fun light was lit.

Just FYI, we also tipped the first captain ( Stephan) $ 200 ( 1 week ) . And Sheron ( two weeks $ 200,00 ), and the owner of Poisiden ( $ 100.00) Capt. Steve for the 2nd week week ) . i figured that Steve made plenty of money on our two week
paid by cabin charter fee.

I know this is the BVI thread, so will not get into more descriptions of the Greek Islands, but just FYI, as to what it was like for us, on a cabin charter. We volunteered to act as watch captains, and give the skipper's a little rest time, as some of the passages were 70 -80 plus miles . All during day light hours. Again, others knew zip about sailing ,, or boats, and they just kicked back, and enjoyed .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The BVI, Your passages will be much shorter, and will vary from a couple of hours, to maybe four hours depending on islands selected.

The BVI are absolutely fabulous and an excellent introduction to ' by the cabin' sailing vacations, or the first international cruising grounds for experienced sailors. Great times for everyone.

I know that you are just riding along, But, would suggest that you order and read,, and bring the CRUISING GUIDE TO THE VIRGIN ISLANDS. by the Scots....and learn what to bring, what to wear, weather and sea conditions for your time there,
and what islands you will be visiting and what special ammenities each of those islands have. Plus snorkel sites and snorkel gear, And the history of the BVI, Otherwise, you may not have a clue, and not even know what islands that you visited when you get
back home.

Have a super marvelous sailing vacation

We have done cabin charters with Festiva and Dream Yacht Charters. We loved both, but the Dream Yacht Charters catamarans are VERY NICE, with more amenities (think electric flush toilets, quiet generators, water and ice makers, etc.). Our $$ is on Dream Yacht Charters.
