We have never been to the island in September. Have heard in the past that businesses shut down during that time. Is that still the case? What are the pros and cons to a September visit?

We’ve gone many times in September over the years to celebrate our anniversary. The beaches are always open and there are more than enough restaurants and bars to keep us satisfied. Many island places do shut down in September for their annual vacations but for every place that closes I’m betting there are at least two or three others to choose from.

That said, it is about the heart of the hurricane season so if you’re going at that time it’s a smart idea to purchase trip insurance jic. We’ve never experienced bad weather and the only rain we’ve seen has been minimal and usually at night so it never interfered with our trip.

We always found the island to be a little slower paced, fewer people everywhere but still enough to be comfortable and the traffic a lot more tolerable in September.

Respectfully,

pat

Some are closed for their vacation, others stay open. The Dutch side restaurants tend to stay open, the French enjoy their vacations. LOL The biggest con is it is peak hurricane season. Buy trip insurance!.

Agree with the other responses. We have gone in Sept/Oct several times. We are going this year in October, for the first time in a while. Several businesses do close, yes, but you certainly won't go hungry. Just make sure that you purchase trip insurance.

September is the month in which most hurricanes hit the island. For this reason I have always avoided visiting during this time. If you are not concerned about this, be sure you get travel and trip cancellation insurance for your trip.

I would advise not to go in September if you have other options. Having been through Irma it’s just not worth the risk getting caught on the island with a hurricane approaching. I will never again go during hurricane season.
