Recent Rental scam,
We all do check for dents and scratches when we pick up Rental car right?
But newest trick by some is passenger side door locks.
They "discover" this when car is returned and add $280 to your bill.
One more reason to rent from trusted companies!

Passenger door lock made malfunctioning before you pick up car. You never notice malfunction. The problem is "discovered" when you return car. This was found in St. Maarten Weekly Edition. Published by DigiPost.

Made malfunctioning by the rental car company or a previous renter? Real big difference between the two.

Tom,

We once had an issue with our passenger, driver and trunk locks. But it had nothing to do with our car rental agency. Someone had attempted to break into our car while it was locked at the beach. All that damage done for nada since we NEVER leave anything in the car. Our agency was excellent and came immediately with another car while he waited for the damaged car to be flat-bedded away. All this and no charge to us for anything.

I truly hope the author of the article was absolutely certain this was a rental company scam as opposed to a situation such as what happened to us. I’ve had very positive experiences with car rental companies over ALL our 45 years of every year island visits save for one trip and since we often do multiple trips in the same year, that’s a lot of rentals. I believe the car rental companies to be as reputable and honorable as any other industry and I hate to see anyone maligned. I just hope they had their facts straight.

Respectfully,

pat

As stated, I passed along info from weekly local paper. Same article describes CDW. Coverage
in car rental contracts. Personally we have never had serious rental company problems either but with over 130 rental car businesses in SXM, I feel that passing along this info could save someone a lot of trouble and $.
