Hey y’all!

I have 6.5 hours of music on my “Beach Music” playlist. I have Jimmy Buffet, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Eagles, James Taylor, Quito Rhymer and Bob Marley. I learned on my last trip that 6.5 hours of music is not enough. So we ended up listening to music my wife doesn’t really care for (Rush, LED Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc.).

So, while enjoying the islands, what is on your playlist? Thanks for your suggestions.

Bill

You can add the late, great Virgin Gorda singer, songwriter, guitarist Morris Mark. Love his CD, Welcome to My Island.

I have a huge playlist on Spotify with lots of great island/beachy music that isn’t your typical overplayed reggae artists. Checkout the following:

The Black Seeds
The Hip Abduction
Oliver Mtukudzi
Lord Huron
Barrington Levy
Paul Simon
Vacationer
Pacific Air
Ziggy Marley
Poolside
Miami Horror
Toots & the Maytals
Kinobe

I love this question!!!!! 😍😍. We are land based in VG and will have our iPhones with WiFi and sound system for hanging at the villa . But when we go to the beach I will be bringing a Bluetooth speaker. Should I load my iPhone with a playlist or does pandora work? I have unlimited data in the states but would need to look into data for this. But is it even an option or is the satellite reception too sketchy? I’m so glad this question got asked because I wouldn’t have thought of this!!

Thank you. I could not get Spotify, Amazon Music or Apple Music to work. That is why I asked this board.

NCSailor, we need to meet for dinner. Your music list is right up my alley.

I’m up to 15 hours of music now. Please keep the suggestions coming!

This question really got me thinking about my upcoming trip (March 2019). We are landbased except for some day trips but I wanted to have both an upbeat list for boat and beach and also a more chill vibe for quieter times. I will download it to a device as well in case I can't get Spotify. It's pretty All-american so I will investigate some of the Reggae bands listed above and get more diverse. But here's the link It's still a work in progress.

A couple of years ago, our friends had all their songs on Spotify or something like that
and were bummed when they found they only had 5 songs actually on their phones.
This worked out good for me in that my music was pretty much all that was available
and I like all the songs on my list better than theirs.

Agree that 6.5 hrs is not near enough to avoid redundancy

You might consider:
Hank Williams, "The Lost Notebooks"
Thelonius Monk, "Straight, No Chaser"
Diana Krall, "Live in Paris"
Stones, "Exile on Main Street"
Armstrong/Fitzgerald, "Porgy and Bess"
The Band, " The Last Waltz"
Definitely like the suggestion for the Dead and Phish and I'm going to look
into Moe (thanks for that)

This thread is great! Being a participant on several sailing forums, I posted a similar request on SBO forums and it got a tremendous response from numerous contributors. I’ve attached a link that I believe you can review as a guest. Enjoy...

Just a reminder to make sure you select the option to download the playlists or make them available for offline listening, otherwise you’d have to be on WiFi or use data to stream the music. If it’s downloaded to your device for offline listening it will be saved into your device’s available storage and you can play the music without data connection. This is what I do because I don’t have WiFi or use my cell phone data in the islands, I’ll just save it before leaving home. You can always undo it after your travels if you need that storage space back.

With Spotify I would have to pay for Premium Service to download to my device, correct? Is $9.99 a month worth it? Maybe pay for one month to download before I go to the islands and then turn it off once home?

I paid for their promotional rate (something very cheap- .99 I think). Then just cancel before the 3 months are up. Try that. I only did it yesterday so should still be going on.

Good question, I’ve always had Spotify premium for a good 8 years and it is absolutely worth $10/month! If that’s what is required in order to save for offline play then I recommend for sure. I don’t know about other services like Apple Music or Amazon Music, as I’ve been so happy with Spotify I’ve never given any of the others a try. Spotify also offers a family price of $14.99, which gives you your own premium subscription and 5 additional premium users you can add by sharing a link for them to join your plan. I have 5 family and friends on my account and it operates separate of each other as if they each have their very own account. I just pay the $5 more because I’m a nice guy :-)

Pandora and Spotify are exclusively licensed for the US and therefore are not accessible in the BVI.

I assume this would apply only to streaming the music, as I have played my downloaded/available offline playlists while on my trip since they’re stored in my device’s (iPhone and iPad) memory. Perhaps that’s the only way to do it if what you say is correct.

I won’t be taking any chances and will download the music but Spotify premium is available internationally. Including the islands, according to their web site. Maybe this is new? Pandora is not for sure. Just a change that might be handy at some point 😃
