Is there a particular high end bottle you're looking for? If not, probably Super U. If so, you might check the wine store in Hope Estates. Senior moment, but I think the name is Le Select??? You could also try Booze it Up in Simpson Bay and Carrefour by Mark's and compare prices.

Some of the jewelry stores in town carry a selection of liquor. Several years ago I wanted a bottle of Dom and was able to negotiate a price at one of the jewelry stores that was better than any retail price I had seen that trip. If buying "maany", I would also ask for a better price than the single bottle price.

I would agree with Super U in Marigot as that is where I buy mine. They also have an extensive selection.

The use of French with champagne is rather redundant as champagne is a sparkling wine from the Chamagne region in France. Anything else is just sparkling wine. Just sayin.😀🍾

I only drink Veuve or Moet at home and there was not a place on on the island that could compare to prices at home...I did find a decent tasting and fair price at Booze it Up called Drappier--wasn't bad! Here's a link they have all prices listed..and do believe there are discounts when purchasing a case?

The wine store in Hope Estate is called Grape Wine. Lots of good wine as well as many gourmet foods.
You should also check out Select Wine Cellar in the Orange Grove Shopping Center in Cole Bay. It's next to where the Harley Davidson shop used to be. Sylvain has a very large selection of wines at different prices and is a sommelier. You might ask for a discount if buying in bulk.

Not high end but definately not low end. Often end up with Laurent & Perrier and we always enjoy and can afford it when we want.

I was thinking Super U and you confirmed it.

Our best days and nights usually involve Champagne ( but only the french stuff from france).

We also enjoy ricard pastis since coming to sxm

Real champagne comes from France. Otherwise it is only sparking wine which is NOT champage.

Correct. California calls it champagne but its just wine resulting from a fermatation process to create sparkling wine. Some dry sun sweet.

Now I'm wondering how long I can keep a bottle of Dom that we brought back stuffed into the golf club bag...in 1998. Still in the fridge and I turn it regular...but it is probably vinegar! lol

I like P.J. myself. And Moet.

In September I bought a bottle of Veuve at Super U for approximately $42. That's way cheaper than in Michigan.

ON the subject of "real" champagne---- unless it's grown, bottled in France it's only sparkling wine.

That said, we go to Pleasant Valley Winery in the Finger Lakes of NY and buy their wines. They received vines from France over 100 years ago and they cannot say it's true champagne only that it's in the "method of" on the label. So I guess just having grapes from France isn't enough. It must also have been grown, bottle there.

A 750ml bottle of Veuve Brut in Michigan is, I believe, currently $54.

Just to be clear and a little more accurate, "Champagne" IS sparkling wine. However, for a bottle of sparkling wine to be labeled Champagne, it has to be made in Champagne, France (not just France) and produced using the méthode champenoise. If that bottle is produced using the exact same method, anywhere else, it must carry a different name. The production method itself must even be referred to differently, méthode tranditionalle being the usual substitute. These rules are strictly enforced. They are codified in national laws, European Union regulations, and international trade agreements and treaties.

There are many great California sparkling wines made using the same method. A few of my favorites are J, Roeder Estate, Schramsberg and Domaine Carneros.Domaine is especially interesting as it is owned by the famous French Champagnery- Tattingers - and made exactly the same way as it is in Champagne, France.

The only difference between the listed California sparkling wines is the legal name of "Champagne".

Now if you really want to get confused.... there is a 100 year old loop hole in the international law that legally allows California made sparkling wines, made by the methode chapenpoise to be called "California Champagne". I have attached a link if anyone is interested....

https://vinepair.com/wine-blog/loophole-california-champagne-legal/

Quality sparkling wine is quality sparkling wine. Drink and enjoy!!

Cheers

Now this is an exact answer as to what/where Champagne is/comes from. Thanks.

My original reason for saying French Champagne was looking for the real thing at the french duty free price which it always seemed to be a great deal on the French side of SXM to anywhere else outside of France that weve purchased it. Other French spirits and wine as well are “cheap”. Cant wait to get there and get to the Super U.

PS. What are the hours of Super U? We arrive NYE. Will things be open as normal on New Years day?

There is a new wine store in ny it’s a nationwide chain I have found duty free means nothing there prices on most wine and spirits are lower then the duty free shops I do see much greater choice of reasonably priced French wine in st Martin that you can’t find in NY but for the same item it rare to find cheaper in the dutyfree shop

I would usually agree with you. However, try some Deutz Champagne. It is amazing. Sylvain at Select Wine Cellar sells it and it is fantastic.

Try Le Gout du Vin in Marigot. http://french-wines-west-indies.gra...etail_shop/saint_martin_retail_shop.html

I always buy there. Not a supermarket.

So, heres what we have found.

Leader price has two brands of Champagne for 12E and 14E.

Super U Marigot have large number of Brands including Laurent and Perrier (LP) for 28.95E

Petit Casino sells LP for about 45E

A Grand Case restaurant has LP for 95E

The Leader Price brands are good but the LP is better.

LP in the states is usually $45-60 bucks for us
