We had some French onion soup last night at Outback, which actually was surprisingly good. It made me think of all the great French onion soups we have had on SXM. My favorite was probably at Bistrot Cariabes--great onion flavor, tons of cheese, very thick, a meal all in itself! Honorable mention to Mario's for a much lighter version of French onion soup, great flavor, but I think no cheese on top?? Where do you get your favorite French onion soup on SXM??

We got ours at Bon Apetite (the old location prior to Irma) Delicious, as was everything there.

Definitely at Le Cottage. They have the best french onion soup anywhere on the island and I have tried many.

The French onion soup at Emilio's is out of this world. It is called St. Maarten French onion soup because it has the (Dutch) Gouda and the (French) Brie in it. It also has a great beef broth which is not from a can!

I saw that on the menu there and didn't try it, because I wanted to save room for my entre. That's the problem with French onion soup at most places, it fills me up! Maybe something to try for a nice lunch..

My favorite was at the Claude Mini Club; unfortunately no longer there...

I had some at Bar de la Mer in Marigot like ten years ago. It was great. I had it two days in a row for lunch. They are closed now. I'm not sure if Bistro de la Mer is the same owners or not, but I think it's the same location.

We loved the French Onion Soup at Temptation. It was made with Hennessy and Heineken. Sad that it is no more...

Regarding Mario's French onion soup, are there other places on island that serve the lighter version, like Mario's?? I love French onion, but I actually don't have it a lot because it is so heavy and I can't eat like I used to. (Not that I should eat as much as I used to!!!)

After this thread I made some last night! But using chicken brother not beef consommé, and Munster cheese not gruyere. I sliced the bread thinner and only 2 slices of cheese, so allnin all it was a “lighter” soup!! wink

If you are ever in Annapolis, either Carrols Creek or Cafe Normandie have awesome soup!

Funny that Emilio's is not in the same league as Temptation but the chef "Dino" is the same!

Dino does not have full control over the whole product at Emilio's.. He is only the chef, not the owner.

For anyone on island next week, Sublime in Simpson Bay just posted their Christmas Eve and Christmas Day menu and it includes french onion soup spiked with Heineken and cognac baked with Gouda and Swiss cheese. The chef at Sublime was a sous chef at Temptation before, so I assume he is using that recipe.
