We are due to arrive next week for 10 days on a 51 foot PC. We were last there in 2009 and it was breathtaking. The other half of our group have never been and are anxious to see what all the buzz is about, however I'm wondering about the mass devastation of last year's hurricanes. Is there visible damage? Is the beauty of the BVIs still there? Just wondering what we're in for when we arrive.

Visible damage, yes. Beauty still there, yes. The recovery is very uneven. So consult BVI Traveller and your charter company for guidance for specifics.

As an addendum there are lots of places that have been fully rebuilt or renovated or are new.

We returned from a 7 day charter from the BVI’s yesterday. Although you could see some damage I was very impressed with all the progress the people have made. The most obvious damage was noticeable in Sopers Hole. The upstairs restaurant at Pusser’s was open and very active with locals as well as those chartering. Voyagers Charters and a small breakfast and lunch place called D’ Best Cup was about all that was open. These people are very concerned about the progress being made on the ferry service and the customs office. Cane Garden Bay had some noticeable damage but a lot of businesses have already reopened. A lot of construction taking place in both locations. These people should be very proud of what they have done, and are very appreciative that you are there spending money. Moderate damage in other locations but still one of the most beautiful places in the world. Anegada had no noticeable damages. Jost showed some but all the beach bars in White Bay and Great Harbour were very active. Good drinks at the B Line on Little Jost. Cooper Island Beach club did a nice job with their new reconstruction. We had a enjoyable visit to Leverick Bay but that was all that was opened that we noticed. Very nice dinner upstairs. Didn’t have time for the cab ride to Hog Heaven but hear that it’s re-opened as well. Saba Rock has new ownership and it will be some time before it is ready - a lot of damage there. Same with The Bitter End. This was a great charter and can’t wait until the next. I hope some of this rambling was helpful.

What boat were you on? We just returned yesterday too and we were at a lot of places you mentioned. We were on Knot Bad, a Voyage Cat.
