My wife and I are returning to SXM staying at Belair Beach the first two weeks of January. This time we're bringing kids and grandkids making it ten of us in all. We were able to use one of our weeks lost last year due to Irma for a second unit at Belair, but are trying to figure what's best for transportation around the island for the ten of us. We had arranged for a driver, Bert, when we originally planned this family get together last year, but haven't been able to locate him since the hurricane. We can arrange 2 cars at Starlite at Belair, or just order cabs when needed. We probably will only go out as a group 3-4 times during the week and want to freedom to let the grandkids' parents to go out on their own as well. Just looking for any suggestions from anyone who can share what they did having looked at a similar experience. Only worried about the first week. Family heads back to the snow and cold after the first week, leaving us to enjoy the solitude of week 2.

Personally, I would go with 2 cars for the first week. Lots more freedom that way and if some decide to go a different direction one day, it makes it much easier.

I lived in Cumberland, RI for years. I would rent two cars from Leisure Rental Car. Easy they meet you at the airport and are near the airport for drop off. Also you get off season rates.

I agree with JD. Rent two cars. Much easier and probably cheaper than getting cabs.

If you did decide to go with a driver, check out the TTOL sponsors page and contact Wilfred Brooks. He has a van, and can transport all of you.

We will be at the Belair at the same time. 1st 2 weeks, just the 2 of us, 3rd week, adult children and granddaughter, 5, (1st time to SXM).
I think 2 car rental is good idea for a group your size. Since we will only be 5, we can get by with 1.
Maybe we can compare notes on what you decided on the beach or @ Monday night get together.
We have been going to Belair for a long time. Feel free to PM if we can help in any way.

Thanks all, for your suggestions. 2 cars it is. Tom and Lisa, we'll see you there. We'll be there with the 2, 5, 6, and 9 yr-old grandkids making lots of noise, with four appreciative parents chilling on the beach.
