For those of you who use GE... A reminder: it and TSA pre only lasts ten years.

A couple days ago I was organizing my things and came across my passport and other vital travel things. That reminded me that I lost my Trusted Traveler Program card. I decided to visit the TTP website to get a replacement.

I tried to login, and found that they have changed their procedures entirely since 2017. So be prepared for that. It will require you to create a new login. Its a simple process...if you have your TPP card or PASSID number. (because I lost mine I had to request they send me my number via the web site...it took about 36 hours for them to respond).

Once logged into the site, I quickly realized that my GE and TSA Pre status was going to expire in a month. Luckily I have very little travel planned so I should be fine. But it would have been a bummer if I let it lapse.

The application process can be done online and is fairly painless. GE costs $100 and TSA Pre is now $85.

I hope this helps. Its one of those things you don't think about ....

TSA Precheck and Global Entry are valid for 5 years, not 10.

I don't belong to any of those things and I get Precheck every time I travel.

Global Entry is worth every cent of the cost.
Recently went thru Atlanta on return from SXM. GE line had 3 people, regular immigration line 300 people.
With carry on I was off plane and onto next gate in 10 Minutes.
Nice.

Correct...5 years for PreCheck and GE...10 years for a passport

I renewed my GE a few months ago. No problems. Also...don't forget if your passport expires before your GE you have to change it to the new one in your GOES account.

I stand corrected. Sorry.

I knew that tooo. Had passport on the brain. Curious. Did you have to be interviewed for your GE renewal?

Low risk travelers ;-) can be assigned Pre Check. But its never guaranteed. Also be aware that even though you official have TTP or GE you can be randomly selected by the Homeland Security for standard screening...just to keep you on your toes.

I once watched a well-suited-self-important guy get pulled. Oh the fireworks!! Mind you this was in Milwaukee in the middle of the day so its not a big deal. He could not let it go.

He ended up at the same gate as me and proceeded to call his PA to get on the phone with someone in charge at the airlines, homeland security, et al (he had a very rich target environment) and "get to the bottom of this". The indignities. I prayed that the PA's resume was up to date and there were greener pastures

It could have been worse...he could have made to the TSA Pre line. Smirking at the rabble as you go by.... And realize he lost his DL in the airport . That's karma (not that it happened to me...I am wayyy to careful.....never could happen....)

We just obtained GE in Dec. and was told in our interview we would have to come back in 5 years and interview again, but the GE web site says you may or may not have to interview, which is determined by the vetting center.

Yup, and you can renew anytime within a year before it will expire. The new date will be five years from the original expiration date NOT the renewal date so no time lost by renewing a tad early

There is actually a bill in Congress to eliminate unvetted passengers from being able to access the TSA precheck lines.

Interesting. I also remain curious about some airline's policies of in effect selling TSA precheck status, which I always thought was very suspect.

The random getting of pre-check to people who are not participants in any TTP is going to go away. The house has passed and a bill and it is now in the Senate's hands.

Story here

Jet Blue was doing it for a while. Not sure if they are still doing it or not.

Good bill. Glad it passed in the house. Hope it proceeds and becomes law. Common sense. Under 13 and over 75 should have to be vetted too but it's a start.

Renewed today, the site said to "check back", but did not indicate when. How long should I wait?
I have plenty of time, mine is not up until 7/2019, but I do have a credit freeze that I lifted until 12/1, hope that is enough time.
Thanks for any info.
Ellen

I've had a credit freeze since the Experian hack, I unlock and lock it as need be. Just a small way to protect myself.

I also have a credit freeze for the same reason...and, re: GE, I never had to check back but I guess you could. They emailed me within two weeks and said I was a go. Received the new card a couple weeks after that

I've had a "credit freeze" for years. It never affected either my original GE application or it's renewal.

Crap, crap, crap, crap!!!!

Your thread prompted me to pull out the cards and check. Hubby is ok. But MINE expires the end of this month right in the middle of our damn trip.!!!!! **!)(&+?#$%^*
There's no way it'll renew in 4 days and I get a card. frown

Where are you coming back through? MIami and some other places have that app you can get on your phone, that many people say is as fast as GE.

Don't need the card. Just the new number. But then again not much time to get it.

DId the renewal immediately after reading this post...lol.

Coming back through Charlotte (i think?)

Hopefully, even if I don't receive the actual card, it will be processed and my passport is linked. We've NEVER had to physically use the cards anyway. Fingers crossed.

You will have to link the number to your passport yourself once you get the number. There is a process to do that on the web site.

IT'S DONE! I did the renewal app last Sunday, and it was finished and approved by the 25th. Number stayed the same, and since I put my new passport number on the renewal app, I'm ready do go! That was eazy peezy, except for spending $100 bucks before our trip...lol

Won't have any problems upon November return now.

Congratulations BeachKitten, I am glad it worked out for you. Did they email you with the results, or did you check the site?
I am still waiting for mine, but I guess since mine is not up until July 2019, I am at the end of the list. grin

Thanks to this thread, I checked ours last night, and found mine expired on my birthday (next week), and David's had expired on his birthday (last week). It seems that even though it's expired he can still renew it online through the new website. We've both applied for renewal and our applications are pending. We fly in about three weeks, so hopefully it will go through without needing an interview.

Four days! But I did not get the card before we left. I just checked the status online.

Never used the cards anyway, it's just tied to my passport. wink
