We are looking into the possibility of organizing a multi family flotilla Summer 2019. Not sure at this point how many families, but guessing 3-6 catamarans. Some will need captains.

I know some charter companies organize these and sell berths. We are looking to put our own group together.

Anyone have experience organizing a group flotilla? Best charter companies to use? Pros/Cons?

General advice/experiences?

Thanks!

You will need to go with one of the bigger companies to insure the right mix of boats are available. Any of the companies will be glad to help you arrange everything. You should be able to negotiate a nice discount with a multi boat booking. I have done a bunch of these in the past and I provide two cautions. First everyone thinks it’s a great idea and wants to go until you call and ask for money. Second if you have 30 people going you will get 29 ideas on the perfect dates. I once no kidding had someone call and tell me two weeks prior to sailing that we needed to move the event back two days because something came up. They were quite upset when I explained there were 23 other people going and the boats and airfares were locked in. Hearding cats can be a good description for these type events. Once you set sail they can however be fantastic!

I agree with George 100%! Best thing to do is start collecting and organizing now and see who actually puts down a $500 deposit. Money talks and you will find out how many are actually serious about going. I plan 6-9 months in advance just for 1 boat and there is always a few crew changes during the early planning. To reduce cost the first thing is figure out how many Captains you have and spread them to each boat and assign your crew accordingly. The other most important thing you can do is be firm once you have the dates and Itinerary. I know the Moorings will give a big discount if you have 5 or more boats. Good luck and hope you have a great trip.
