We are planning to visit Cozumel the middle of August to dive and hopefully help with some turtle rescue/releases. Last summer we had no problems with flights but just discovered that Delta only does Thursday, Friday and Saturday flights into Cozumel. I will be traveling with my son and he has in-service where he teaches starting 8/23 and has to be there. My anniversary is the 11th and want to be home with my husband for that so we don't have too many choices. I wanted to come down Sunday the 12th and return Wednesday 8/22. There are no flights out the 22nd. We could do 12 - 19 but really want to stay longer especially since no one knows when the turtles will start hatching. I know many people save money by flying in and out of Cancun and taking the ferry to Cozumel. We have scuba gear and my son has 2 bags of camera gear plus regular luggage so the thought of doing the ferry and getting to the airport does not excite me.
I imagine we could get an early ferry and get to the airport for a 1:15 flight. There are no late flights for us. But what is the best way to get to the airport??? My other thought would be to take the ferry to PlayaDeCarmen on the 21st and stay at a hotel that night, sleep in and go to the airport late morning.
I looked into using Delta going down and another airline back from Cozumel but the one way fares are the same price as round trip. And I have perks on Delta and we just prefer them.
Looking for an suggestions. is this workable? are there any reasonably priced hotels close to the ferry terminal in Playa? any suggestions for transportation to the airport from Playa. How often do the ferries cancel because of bad weather. I know that Cozumel's marinas close if conditions are bad and no boats go out for diving. That is another reason to go over a day early.
thank you so much for any help you can give me. Sandy

If you take the ferry from Cozumel, arrange to be met with CARM transport at the ferry. They are very reliable and reasonably priced. http://www.cancunandrivieramaya.com/transfers/Check the weather a few days before your flight home. If you are worried, then you have the option of spending the night in Playa and you can arrange for pick-up by CARM.

Thanks for the info. The more we talk, we will just make this a 7day day trip. We are taking too much gear to want to drag it on the ferry.

Many times we fly into Cancun and stay a few day in Playa before heading over to our condo in Cozumel. If there is no option to fly out of Cozumel, then i would suggest El Secreto Right on 5th between 6 and 8. Clean rooms, hot water, and AC. Usually around $40 to $50. Good luck..
I'd like to be a jelly fish, cause jelly fish don't pay rent.

It is always better to fly thru Cancun Airport instead of Cozumel's airport since there are much more flights going thru there. You can check out all the flight options thru its own website: http://www.cancuniairport.com

Just FYI I took an 8 day trip to Cozumel last month (June '18) and flew RT from Denver directly to Cozumel on American. Thru Dallas on the outbound and thru Miami on the way back. The CZM airport is extremely user friendly and small (6 gates). JMHO but I would never go thru Cancun and mess around with that airport and the subsequent trek to Playa to take the ferry. Too much brain damage and wasted time, at least for me.
