I am thinking today of the many wonderful vacations I have enjoyed on this friendly island over the past 25 years. Since I am recovering from knee surgery and cannot travel for a few months, I would like to encourage all SXM lovers who are able, to return to support the island recovery as soon as possible. All the residents need our help to get their lives back to normal! I have put my thoughts in the following poem and I pray that this wonderful island will once again be the shining jewel we have all come to enjoy!
Island in the Sun
I have an island in the sun, With turquoise seas and pure white sand. My visits there are so much fun, I truly love my St. Maarten land.
On September 6, there was a furious storm, Hurricane Irma hit with great force! This storm was so much worse than the norm, And it devastated the island as it ran its course.
Many residents have lost their homes, And sadly lives were lost as well. No roofs, no windows and no place to roam, The people there have so much to tell.
With smiling faces, the weak remain strong, Fixing homes, finding cars, getting back to normal. With help from their neighbours, they try to right the wrong, They unite once again to be happy and joyful.
Now jobs there are scarce since businesses were lost, And people need money for food and supplies. They need tourist dollars to help at all cost, Come pay them a visit and help save their lives!

Very nice words, thanks. The recovery takes time and therapy. My wife had bilateral replacements and had a positive result.
I'm going where the weather suits my clothes.

Thanks Elizabeth for the poem. I join the others in wishing you a speedy recovery. I hear that most knee replacements go very well. I hope yours does.

Very nice poem and thoughts. We are returning in June and will post a trip report upon our return. We know what it's like to live vicariously through those trip report. In the meantime, we hope your recovery is going well and you'll soon be writing one yourself.
