August 1 We woke up way too early, headed to the airport, and caught out first flight. We had two hours to kill once we made it to Miami International. We took advantage of the 2 for 1 double screwdrivers at the airport bar and left Miami with a $63 bar tab. Vacation had officially started.
Our flight made it in to STT a little after noon. There was a SNAFU with the ferry schedule. No worries, up to the Pump House for some drinks. Ferry got us into Road Town a little later than expected. We cleared customs without issue. However, due to the Emancipation Festival Parade, it took us a while to get a cab.
All of these little delays put us into BVI Yacht Charters after they had closed. However, they put our provisions away for us, and had the AC chilling Sapphire when we got there. Caribbean Cellars sent us 3 more liters of Mount Gay than we had ordered. Challenge accepted. We dinged over to Village Cay for some fritters and drinks. Back to the boat for some well earned sleep.

August 2 Got started at the marina early. Quick and efficient chart briefing and boat check out. Checked the weather forecast and it looked like Emily was going to bring us some wind and a little rain, but not much else. We agreed the Bight would be the most comfortable anchorage in the east winds that were forecasted at sustained 30knts with gusts to 45knts.
We sailed off to the Bight, and with the strong wind we made 6 knots easily under jib alone. It was a little choppy in the channel, but not too bad. We moored and dinged to the beach. More drinks, swimming, and good times. We were very protected from the weather, and only got about 30 minutes of rain the entire trip. Dinner and Willy T’s. Not many people there. But we made our own fun.

August 3 Left the Bight for Cane Garden Bay. Seas were a little rough in the channel, but it was a downhill run for us so it wasn’t bad at all. By mid-afternoon, the weather had started to clear nicely. This was the only planned stop on our trip as my wife and I were renewing our vows for our tenth anniversary. The ceremony was nice and our planner, Heather Anderson did a great job. We had dinner onboard and then had a few drinks at Myett’s before retiring for the night.

August 4 We departed CGB for Sandy Spit. The weather had cleared and the winds were under 15 knots. Sandy Spit is a beautiful little spot, and we enjoyed it a lot. There is also some great snorkeling just north of SS. We left SS for White Bay and the Soggy Dollar Bar. The sun was out, and the sky was bright blue. We dropped the hook in White Bay and had a nice time at SD. The bartender, Oldtimer, was awesome. Great stories. We met a few new friends and stayed way later than we planned. It was too much fun to leave.
We pulled the hook and headed to Great Harbor about 1600 and picked up one of the last balls. We visited with our new friends for a while, then headed into Foxy,s for dinner and drinks. The grouper was some of the best I have ever had.

August 5 Left JVD early for the long ride up to Virgin Gorda. Stopped and enjoyed the Baths. I understand why this is a must stop for even seasoned BVI veterans. Departed for North Sound and moored off Saba Rock. It’s a pretty neat little spot. They have a good happy hour from 1600-1800. Otherwise, it’s pretty pricey. The tarpon feeding is neat also.

August 6 Our wedding planner had invited us to a private party at The Last Resort in Trellis Bay, so we altered our “plans” and decided to head to Scrub Island for the night and take advantage of their generous TTOL discount. The staff was very friendly. However, Jennifer stands out as one of the nicest ladies I have ever met. Oh, and her drinks were VERY strong. We enjoyed the pool and bar. The store was not very well stocked though. We dinged over to Marina Cay and walked their grounds.
After dinner aboard, we took Scrub’s ferry over to Trellis Bay for the party. The last resort was packed and an absolute blast! We had a great time and returned to Scrub. Although the boat had fans in every room and we were never hot, it was nice to take advantage of the shore side AC for the night.

August 7-8 We woke early, and I felt a little foggy from the party the night before. We cast off from Scrub, and set off for Anegada. It ended up being a long sail as the seas were choppy and we were on a beat all day. We arrived, picked up a ball, and grabbed some provisions. Dinner aboard and enjoyed the stars. We relaxed aboard as we had planned on two days here.
The next morning we packed a cooler, and caught a cab for Loblolly. The beach here was stunning and nearly deserted. We enjoyed the snorkeling and grabbed some fritters from Big Bamboo. The cab picked us up and dropped us off at Cow Wreck Bar. I believe this is the prettiest beach we visited.
We had heard a ton of horror stories regarding navigation to Anegada. However, it seemed really straight forward to me. It reminded me of normal Bahamas stuff. Just do your homework first, but don’t miss it.

August 9 Sailed off to Monkey Point for some snorkeling and caught a nice bonita along the way. Slept the night in Trellis Bay, just so we could return to The Last Resort. Visited some shops in the bay also.

August 10 Sailed off for our final night in the BVIs. Sailed of the Indians and the Caves. Very nice weather and snorkeling. Moored for the night in the Bight again and boarded the Willy T, again.

August 11 Departed the Bight for the worst part off the trip; leaving. Docked at BVIYC and fueled the boat. The check in was smooth and quick. Caught the fast ferry back to St Thomas where US Customs went out of their way to toss our luggage. This has become standard procedure for me as my passport is flagged for some unknown reason. We just allow extra time for this. They opened every bottle of shampoo, every tube of toothpaste, and unfolded every item of clothing. The procedure took an hour. Afterwards I was finally able to get a supervisor to tell me why I am flagged. Turns out there is some very incorrect information regarding firearms on my file. I have now begun the uphill battle to get this removed.
Anyway, it was a great trip with beautiful weather. As we didn’t have any real schedule, we were able to go where the weather dictated.

Some random thoughts:
Mediocre food is the same price as great food. Ask around first.
BVIYC was fantastic from start to finish. We will use them again without question.
Scrub is definitely worth the stop.
We have already started planning the next one.
It didn’t seem like there were enough hours in the day to do everything we wanted.
The best thing we packed was our MSR pack towels. Absorb a ton, dry quick, pack small.
An 80GB ipod becomes very small after 11 straight days of listening.
Organization is key on a boat. This is not my strong suit.
Hopping in the dingy to go to the store is much better than hopping in the car to go to the store.
