Mrsimcard.com

I just ordered a Lime card good anywhere in the Caribbean, you can pick your home base when you order the card - i.e. Grenada...free roaming in the Caribbean, free incoming calls & texts, no contract.

No, never used LIME except locally in the BVI's. I wouldn't use my cell to call home, when they can call me for free.

I usually used Skype on free Wifi if I have to do that - 2.3 cents per minute, however, this time I am trying not to bring my laptop.

Here's the local BVI prepaid plan rates

and from St. Vincent & the Grenadines:

Lime just changed its prepaid rates a couple weeks ago. This link shows the new rates. No longer free roaming but stil good rates. .39 US per minute roaming. Note that if you add a 30 day package it is in EC$ and minutes can be used to call long distance to US or Canada. Buying a package cuts the per minute cost. This new fee scedule is a little confusiong at first read. http://www.time4lime.com/vg/personal/mobile/plans_prepaid.jsp

I have to call back to check business voicemail and possibly return calls and also never bring my laptop on vacation, so skype is out. Also what I meant was have you ever ordered and used Mrsimcard.com before?

and sorry your links did not work. I have an email in to mrsimcard.

I ordered my LIME SIM card, painless online process, paypal payment, email confirmation of phone number, 10 days later I have the card, with easy to follow instructions for activation, adding time, and what charges are how much.

Very cool, will definitely use MrSimCard Lime again.

Tried it out, and so far it all looks good.

I am back!

I only tried topping up using online. I couldn't find a way to do it via the phone, and I didn't try to use a card bought at a store, but the online top up worked great. Make sure you set up your account with the phone service BEFORE you go away, so that you don't have to use crappy connection in the islands to do it! ~smiles~

sorry to hear your back but glad you responded to me. Hope you had a fantastic time. I won't have a computer with me so unless there is internet at the places I'm staying I'll probably either have to find a store or buy extra time before i leave. Was told there was lime outlets on Union Isl and Bequia. I think the mrsimm guy said I could get a pin # and top up using the phone that way. Anyway i'm sure i'll survive. What do you mean set up your phone service? Do you mean put the sim card in before you get to the islands and it walks you through it?

I set up my account with lime on the internet before I left, so that I wouldn't have to do it all while in some bar somewhere - so I just had to log in, pick some dollar amount, pay (with a prepaid set up MC number) and click log off. Painless.

The Captain didn't have his Lime account set up and it took for EVER to do from the bar at Grenada Marine.

I could not figure out how to top up my lime card through the phone, but I am not sure if I deleted the number by mistake to call.

I'm pretty sure time can be added with the cards, but don't have any experience with that.

Have fun!

Heading down to SVG in a few weeks, each of the above plans seem to charge for calls back to the US. Is there a sim or plan that offers no per minute charges for either incoming or outgoing calls to the US?

disco stu, there will always be a charge no matter who you use. But if u can get a sim card and put in your unlocked global cell phone it will be way cheaper than using your cell phone's rates. In order to buy a sim card from digicel or Lime you have to first have an unlocked global phone from your cell phone carrier. ATT is the best one Verizon has minimal cell phones that will allow you to do this. Tell me what carrier you have and then you can be helped better.

You don't need a laptop for Skype, there is an app for iPhone and android. You can also make calls to phones using Skype for a low monthly fee (I think around $5). All you need is internet access.

We'll be in Bequia in June, so if we see him, we'll ask him for contact info - contact info is not listed in the new cruising guide, although they mention the restaurant.

Please pardon my ignorance. This will be our first trip sailing the Grenadines. Most of us have iPhones, which do not have Sim cards. So am I right in thinking that we have to purchase a phone and sim card vs just adding international rate plan for the time that we are away?

I should add- we are all leaving kids at home with grandparents so really want the phone to call home to kids.

Thanks-
Patti

right i am in a similar situation and must have a phone. So yes you are right Iphones do not allow you to open the back of the phone and put a sim card into it; you would have to get the international plan and that will cost a lot. You can go on amazon or ebay and do a search for "gsm unlocked cell phone" make sure you put in gsm first it brings up cheaper phones; and then either use mrsimcard.com to buy the sim card for the grenadines and put it in your global phone before you leave or buy the phone and wait until you are in the islands and find a Lime store and buy the card then. Don't know where in the Grenadines you are going but not that easy to get to a Lime store.

I suggest buying the phone from either amazon or ebay and then the sim card from mrsimcard before you go to make sure everything is going to work ok.

We have an old Verizon Escapade that we used all the time to do this, just upgraded to a smartphone that is not global but can still use our old Escapade when we travel and put the sim card in it. So if you buy a gsm unlocked global phone you can use it every time you travel out of the country.

you might see a bunch of expensive phones when you search but don't worry about that and just get a decent one for under $50.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0...cked+cell+phone

http://www.ebay.com/ctg/Pantech-Escapade...mpt=Cell_Phones

hope this helps and you will love the Grenadines, we will be going back in Dec. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />
