There is a building behind the airport that has the big white globe on the top of it. Is that the airport control tower?

No it's not. That's the radar facility. The control tower is a very tall building with a glass structure on the top for the controlers to visually see the aircraft.

Bill and Elaine are exactly correct. The bubble atop the control tower houses an ASR (Airport Surveilance Radar) on top of the glassed control tower. Inside the radome (the white "ball") is a rotating S-band radar antenna with an L-band ATCRBS (Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon System) interrogator/receiver flat faced array mounted above it, all under the dome.

I think club O should look for the contractor that built that to rebuild,it's amazing it is still standing after watching the webcam at the airport fight to the finish!!

I don't know for sure but watched it being built between 5 and 10 years ago

I knew one of the ATC supervisors and he was trained by Raytheon. They also do their Continuing Education etc.

Asked the ATF manager this evening, it was built in 2000.
