Hi All

I'm going to the Annual Pork Fat Rules BBQ Pot luck at a friend's next weekend, and need to find a great unusual recipe that travels easy & quick reheating at the party site.

I've already found some great recipes for Bacon Caramels, Maple Bacon Muffins, & Ginger Bacon cookies, but am looking for something else to bring, preferably not another dessert.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

How about Apple Bacon Cole Slaw?
and no re-heating necessary! Just keep it cold!

This recipe sounded good (for my tastes), but there are other variations of the rcecipe if you GOOGLE it...

It's not super exotic, but we like to put chopped maple bacon into our deviled eggs, just prepare your fav recipe and add it -- a nice twist on the classic. For a different touch we turn the boiled eggs vertically, cut off the top 1/3, scooped out the yolk and pipe it back in after making the mixture. A slightly different presentation than the usual 'cut em in half' style. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

i had a bacon bourbon cocktail at blue hill restaurant here in nyc. i didn't love it, but it was certainly interesting and seems fit for your shindig. there were some recipes that turned up with google. enjoy your pork fat rules party.

Thanks everyone, for the suggestions. I think I'll make bacon caramel and the apple bacon slaw, and bring Bacon bourbon shots for a bit of fun!

Dawn, let us know how the cole slaw turns out! I think I may try it this weekend! I did sound really good! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

I doubt bacon burbon shots are my "cup of tea"! or "cup of shot"! any kind of bacon shot? naaaaah! I don't think so! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Laugh.gif" alt="" />
But for a Pork Fat Party! perfect! It would add the "uniusual"! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Definitely - it started out as a bbq, turned into a pig roast, and now it has become the Pork Fat Rules weekend - start to finish, everything has to have a pork product in it (hence the bacon bourbon shots!). Prizes and fun all weekend long! Should be a good time!

YUMMMMMM!!! That sounds really good!
Brings to mind a Thanksgiving leftover recipe of my grandmothers...
Add gorgonzolla and crumbled crispy bacon (or salt pork, diced small and done crispy) to leftover gravy...
and reheat turkey & carrots & onions in the gravy...
serve over Puff Pastry Shells... YUMMMMM!

Okay, so the Apple bacon coleslaw and Bourbon Bacon Caramels were a hit! The caramels were voted best dish! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Blush.gif" alt="" />

In the coleslaw, I split 1/2 warm bacon fat amd 1/2 olive oil instead of just the oil, to get more bacony flavour. I also found it to be a bit bitter, so I added some honey to the dressing, and it turned out great (maybe we like it sweeter up here in Canada?)

A good time was had by all, although I think I had too many Apple Bacon Martinis! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

There were about 20 different dishes being served throughout the afternoon/evening - drinks, appetizers, sides etc. with the pig roast, and desserts.

The apple bacon martinis were pretty good - the bacon was candied and stuck on the side of the glass with a slice of apple - delish!

There were bacon-wrapped scallops, bacon bean dip, pizza with various pork/bacon toppings, sausages, pulled pork squares, swiss chard w/bacon & tomatoes, bacon chocolate cookies, bacon brownies...I know I am missing lots, but that's all I can remember.

Did you make your own Salt Caramels or just used store bought?

Was there any dipped in chocolate? LOL

Nope, no chocolate.

Made my own caramel. First time making "candy", bought a candy thermometer, and went to town! Turned out really well, was surprised at how easy it was!

I was actually surprised, I couldn't taste much except for the chocolate. They were good though!

Glad it might qualify for the Pork Fat-apolooza. Besides, I had to get another post going on the forum before they changed the title of the forum from Recipes to Brussels Sprouts! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Blush.gif" alt="" />
