I checked my current reservation from MKE to ATL to SXM this morning and it didn't show us having a seat chosen for our trip from ATL to SXM. Then when I did a current check for price for those dates (2/15/18-2/24/18) it shows an overnight in San Juan. I called an agent and sure enough but instead she shows us with an overnight in ATL. I am not trying to upset anyone. I just want to make you aware of what's happening to us so you can avoid any issues down the line if your reservation has been affected as well.

As a side note...the agent mentioned that the change was for certain days of the week so it's possible you may not be affected. Our reservation was a Thursday departure and a Saturday return.

Jenni--I'm sorry you are having such a tribulation with your airfare. Pre-Irma, what had your normal air routing been to get to SXM?

We were originally departing on American from MKE to CLT to SXM. They had a schedule change and had us going MKE to CLT to MIA to SXM. The problem with that was our connection left to MIA before we even arrived in CLT so that didn't work. Tried working with American even leaving out of ORD instead but that left with an overnight in MIA. So we decided to cancel and book with Delta. Now they changed our reservation upon departure with an overnight in ATL. It appears that only Thursday departures may be affected. But who know??? So just got off the phone with a Delta agent who was able to book us 2/16/18-2/25/18 (Friday to Sunday). Not exactly ideal, but it'll work. Thought about cancelling again and just trying to go somewhere else, but going someplace else just really doesn't appeal to us even with all the destruction. We really want to go back and support everyone who has made our past vacations so enjoyable. So I guess we'll hold our breath and hope there aren't anymore changes. Thanks for your concern. Again, I certainly didn't want to alarm anyone, just be aware and check your reservations often. As we didn't get any notification regarding the change. I found it by checking prices and then seeing our reservation was indeed changed the next day.

I just checked all 4 of our Delta flights mid Feb, they switched some seats around, but we appear to be good to go.

Ours were good last week but this morning I checked and we left as normal but didn't get there until the next day. They must have cancelled the flight from Atlanta to SXM, now I looked online and no flight except for one day during the week. I called but nothing available from Delta so called American flying out of Chicago and they had room so will have to drive there and at least we can get there the same day unless they change some thing too. I did get a full refund from Delta.

Strange
I have My wife and I and two young adult kids going Toronto>Atlanta>SXM, wife and I on the 15th, kids on the 19th, so far our tix show on the Delta site as I booked them, save for a seat change on the first leg of the flight on the 15th. Take-off @ 6.15 am, 90 min layover in ATL, arriving SXM 2.53 pm.

You may want to give Delta a call just to confirm that your reservation is indeed current and as listed. We were scheduled to leave on Thursday, 2/15 too and when they made the schedule change they had us leaving out of MKE on 2/15 but not arriving in SXM till Friday 2/16. When I called, the agent I spoke to said they were not flying from ATL to SXM on Thursdays for that time frame. You may also want to go onto Delta's website under Flight Schedules and put in your airport codes or flight numbers for your date of departure. When I checked YZZ to SXM on 2/15 it shows an arrival in SXM on Friday 2/16. Again, I'm not trying to upset anyone but since this is the second time I'm going through this I would want to know as soon as possible so that I could make other arrangements. I had the agent just change our departure from 2/15 to 2/16. But I do see that the leg from ATL to SXM is getting full so you may want to check soon. I personally wouldn't want to just go off of my reservation if other people are having the same issue. I hope everything works out for you.

Jenni,
Well, you were right. There are no ATL>SXM flights on Thursdays now. They went ahead and changed our itinerary so that we had a 26 hour layover in Atlanta. Um, no. But there is an option(!), a 20-something hour layover in San Juan. Um, double no.
Enough is enough. It's time to cancel and find something else. I can't take this uncertainty, I have enough of that in real life.

I am very sorry to hear that. What about leaving on Friday 2/16 out of Toronto to SXM. Delta's flight schedule shows that as a viable flight that departs and arrives the same day. At least for now. I know what you mean about looking for someplace else. One more change and that'll be it for us as well. I've spent at least two days worth of time with American first and now with Delta to make it work. I sincerely hope you are able to work something out. Maybe if you leave on the 16th as we are, we can all share a cocktail on the plane.

I have had enough changes. WestJet Cancelled, Air Canada Cancelled, now Delta has switched up everything. 2018 is not my year for SXM.
Hmmm, where to now? Dare I go for my first cruise?

I tell you though, if you do try to leave on Friday, 2/16, try to speak with a supervisor. When I called to update our departure date to the 16th, the girl gave me a bit of a hard time. I told her you already have us leaving from ATL to SXM on 2/16, all you need to do is switch our MKE to ATL from 2/15 to 2/16 and all will be good. With some checking, she was able to make it work. I'm not sure if leaving one day later works for you, but it may be an option.

Ritchard--so sorry it hasn't worked out for you. It is really unfortunate that these airlines are doing this to people.

I hear ya...and feel your pain. We've got 3 months to go, so a lot can happen in that time frame. We're thinking possibly about going back to St Lucia or maybe trying Curaçao, if they mess with us again. We've been on a cruise and my husband did not like it one bit. So that wouldn't work for us. You may like. It's a good way to get a taste of different islands. The only problem is it's just a taste. What ever you decide, my best to you for a wonderful, relaxing vacation.

Thank you Carol and Jenni. I am frankly a little heart broken. Like so many of you, I love SXM and wanted to get back so badly. I just need to book something and know there won't be any more cancellations. Our dates are pretty fixed due to my kid in University and his reading week.

We too will be heartbroken if we are unable to go due to another schedule change. Going to another island is nice, but it's just not the same. We've made so many friends over the years that we love seeing every year, that it would be a bit lonely. St Martin just feels like our second home, as many of you would agree. Best of luck to you. Let us know where you decide to go if you can.

Thank you so much for starting this thread. When I checked our reservations I discovered that we were booked a day ahead to arrive and a day ahead to leave. No notification! So I managed to change them to better dates for accommodations. Also the poster who said that Delta has cancelled Thursday flights seems to be correct. .

Thanks for this heads-up. I found our return trip had been changed, and like others, the connection in ATL did not get changed. A call to Delta fixed the issue quickly and easily.

Just to finish the narrative, Kim and I booked to Martinique over the weekend. And we're not waiting until Feb. I have a hole in my schedule early Decembers so we're going for our first-ever autumn holiday.
We'll see what happens for February with the kids.

Very happy to hear you were able to book something. Would love to hear how you like Martinique. We've never been. Hopefully you will still be able to book something with your kids in February. Enjoy your time and safe travels to you both!

Were contemplating going Sat to Sunday 3-11 Feb on Delta thru Atlanta. For those who have been staring at the Delta and February schedules, do the sat/sun flights appear “solid”? Obviously, nothing is 100% in this current game.

We have Delta reservations on February 3. I checked on our reservations and it appears that over half of the plane is full from ATL ==> SXM. I suspect that the flight will go as scheduled, but that's obviously a guess.

We flew Delta BDL ATL SXM last week with no issues. Plane that holds 110 people only carried 20

Others have had the same experience. Hearing room rates are through the roof too. Needs to settle a bit more I think before we have "crowds". We're crowds enough ourselves just now. Lines in stores and plenty traffic. Beaches are amazing.

Lines in grocery stores or hardware stores, etc? or both? I guess there are so few hotels open, that those that are can charge a premium.

Delta also cancelled our flights, yet they were through JFK. When I went to check on the status, it stated that there was no seat selected (which I knew was not true), and there was a message to contact Delta. Sure enough, flight was cancelled. Both going and coming home. So . . . . looking for something else at this point. Just waiting for Delta's prices to come back down. $1100 for one way was a tad too expensive! Going down in March for two weeks.

Ritchard replied here and I moved his trip report to the Southern Caribbean forum. Check it out there.
