hallucination said: Expect changes to AA and Delta soon...... Basis? Delta 571 from ATL to STT, for example, has been flying every day. 133+ coach seats, and half of first class, "unavailable" (filled?) on Thursday, October 26. Even if United historically carried fewer passengers to STT than AA or Delta, wouldn't they pick up the passengers from United's shutdown? Our charter crew re-booked November Delta flights to April (no charge). If you have some industry insight that we may not be going, it would be helpful to know that now. Thanks.

IMO - Not sure that all will follow suit with United. There is a need for flights, just not the demand that comes with the normally high tourist season. The STT airport is not fully functional and can only handle so many flights. I'd rather see this slower, funneled process as they begin the recovery period....... "drinking out of garden hose is certainly easier than drinking out of a fire hose"
And with that being said, not much sweeter than that first, second painkiller when you hit the ferry in Charlotte Amalie and head towards the BVI. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" />

I was booked on United to STT in January from Ottawa.
I used a Travel agent who went to bat for me and I did receive a full refund from United. They were willing to switch my flight from STT to San Juan where I would have to buy another ticket on Cape Air or Seaborne.
So I am booked with American all the way to EIS. However it is more expensive than my original United ticket (but at least I am flying in and out of EIS instead of STT).
One interesting tidbit which may vary from United ticket holder but they were only giving me until Nov 1 to decide what to do (rebook or cancel). If people are not aware of the STT cancellations (which is possible as I heard about it on the travel boards and never received an email from United), they might have a real problem on their hand with no flight and no alternative.
I still am trying to get a room in Tortola for the night before we get our boat. That will be the next stress inducer....

Received our email from United yesterday afternoon. Same message. So that kills our January charter, although finding rooms on Tortola before and after was looking problematic.

hallucination ... can you provide some support on the Delta statement? I Called Delta (I am booked on 571 in December) and they said they have no information of a possible suspension of service.

United said their terminal in St. Thomas was badly damaged. They just refunded our fares in full, no questions, no problems.

My concern is not airline refund. I have insurance and they agreed to do that already.
My concern is my charter not rescheduling or refunding.

We did have a Delta flight (JFK > STT) booked on Jan-5 that was cancelled without notice. I only found out because it was missing when I checked my account. They were able to get us on a connecting flight instead through ATL.
Also, I saw on another post that this is not just on the airlines, but that STT only has two working gates and they are limiting airlines to one flight per day. American is flying just to their MIA hub and Delta to their ATL hub.

As long as the one flight is mine... all is good ... LOL
My only fear is Delta pulling their last remaining flight. I remain cautiously optimistic. I called and Delta said they cut two direct flights (BOS-STT and JFK-STT) Plus downgraded ATL-STT to 737 from 757. The agent said he does not anticipate more changes.
My positive spirit tells me these are Delta's changes and no more are forthcoming. I pray my optimism is rewarded with a Caribbean sunset in December.

I am going with that positive mindset too Mattwill!
7 days till takeoff and sunsets. And then, after the sunset, the long hours of dark on an island without electricity, no complaints here.

My wife has hooks into the reservation system for all airlines and has seen some funkiness in the cancelations of several of the STT flights. Both short and long term. As mentioned before, be sure to keep a careful eye on your reservations and notifications for Delta specifically and to a lessor extent American. Not suspensions at this point for the others, just funkiness.

Thanks to this thread I checked our Delta flight to STT for this Jan. and sure enough, it was cancelled. No notice, just cancelled. Looks like we will have to cancel our vacation this year.

AA is flying from Miami, not sure if it's every day, but I know they are flying from Miami. That's the reason why I asked whether gotham didn't want to go, or had to have a nonstop.

Gotham, STT had only been allowing one flight in per day per airline because they only had two functioning gates. That flight for Delta has been the one out of Atlanta. Maybe Delta can re-route you thru Atlanta? As for myself AA had to re-route me thru Miami for my late November flight. Since Nov 1st AA has been doing two flights per day so it looks like the situation with the gates is improving. As soon as demand picks up I'm betting that the other airlines start adding more flights. It isn't right that you weren't notified about your flight cancellation though. I booked my flight via Travelocity and they notified me immediately when my original flight was cancelled and took care of all the re-routing for me.

Our cancellation is due to a combination of the flight and being informed that our reserved yacht at BVIYC is beyond repair and no alternative is available.

OK, no problem. I thought you were saying that you had to cancel because of the air only.

What boat did you have at BVIYC? I know they had several new boats on the way and a few at the dock.

Sapphire, Benneteau 31. They offered to reschedule to Feb. but we couldn't make that work. We'll sadly postpone till Jan. 2018.
