tacking on a land excursion to the end of our sailing in Thailand. Interested in which city is a not miss... Singapore intrigues me but I know Bangkok has a big following too. We are less party people and more significant architectural nature people.

Love both places but they are like light and day.
Singapore, clean, like spotless clean, modern, safe.........but not so tantalizing, kind of sterile.
Bangkok is not clean, no where near as modern, not nearly as safe..........but it is very interesting......lots of culture.....not sterile.
If you have time I would stay in Bangkok 3-5 days and either fly or train to Singapore for 2-3 days. Then fly home.

I have never been to Singapore, but the description of Bamgkok seems right on. We spent 3-4 days there after a trip a few years ago and had a great time visiting temples, the night market, shopping for jewelry, and riding on the river. We got around by subway, taxi, walking and tuk tuk. You have to be a little careful, but it seemed pretty safe. Most places in the Far East are safe.

Bangkok is better to visit especially in summer vacations. I always enjoyed the hospitality of the people as well as hotel staff. In Spite of this, there are lot of beautiful places to see. I would recommend everyone to go there.

I would suggest visiting Bangkok first, before visiting Singapore. Bangkok will stress your senses beyond belief, something like no where else in the world can do. Or try Phuket, Thailand instead of Bangkok to still get the culture but without the intense crime of Bangkok.
After your are saturated with Thailand, fly to Singapore and see the amazing sights of a beautiful oasis to say the least. The night zoo, architecture and home of the Singapore Sling are so much fun.
As others said, both places are like night and day with each having a persona of their own and both well worth visiting.

I would say Bangkok. Amazing temples, night markets and cuisine, friendly people. However, the traffic in peak hours is a bit chaotic, so you should avoid going out at that time. The traveling cost in Bangkok is also cheap. I got a tour via asiapackagetravel and overall had a great trip.
