Sammy, what are you looking for. Been there a couple of times including this past July on a cruise stop. Not much of interest at all. Still recovering from hurricane Matthew of last year.

We plan on living on the beach while we are there, but would also like to see the island. Better to rent a car or scooters? Are there any chain restaurants on the island? How about free wifi spots? Did you get a nano sim card for your cell phone? Are there any real tourist traps to avoid? Is safety worst or better than the US? Any places or things that we should try to do or must see? TIA for your answers!

Have not been to Freeport but been to a few out islands. You plan on living on a beach? Research the out islands. Exzuma sounds right for you. Fantastic, beautiful beaches, with water clarity like gin. Rent a small outboard and explore. Rent a car and explore on land, find your own beach. Good dining, no chain restaurants. Conch to eat everywhere. Eleuthra is also nice. You can try some of the others like Cat Island and Long Island, a little more remote. The Out Islands are really beautiful if you want peace and tranquility and very safe!
