OMG: Had a wonderful relaxing week at Grand Case Beach Club! This was our 3rd trip to SXM but had never stayed in Grand Case. Well now I think that I will always stay there! After a stressful drive from PJIA to Grand Case (a combination of heavy traffic and getting confused/turned around in Marigot), we arrived at GCBC just as the sun was setting. Whatever ill feelings we had were completely wiped out after enjoying our complimentary bottle of wine on our balcony. (We opted for an oceanview studio -- just right for us) By now it was too dark to see much of the hotel so we walked into town and had dinner at Spicy (thanks to the great recco's on this board.) It was not busy so we got a table right away. We had a great meal although my husband thought the "spicy" part of the name didn't translate to spicy food (he loves his heat!). We walked back (with no trouble) and collapsed into a very comfortable bed. Day 2: Woke up and was able to see the hotel and view properly. The hotel is so nice! Very nice pathways lead around the property. We had the complimentary continental breakfast which was fine for me but hubby likes his full hot cooked breakfast.
Other than driving to Marigot for lunch (and visiting some familiar haunts such as the Arawak Bar and Marina Royale) we were pretty much content to spend our days swimming, lounging and eating.
We had a blast at Le Shore: men take note: very sexy waitresses. Our server wore a backless mini dress with high heel boots. I was afraid the quality of the service would be suspect but no worries, she was terrific. We even had a power outage which just made things even more romantic. Once we finished our dinner, we moved over the lounge and it got crazy with the music, go go dancers and influx of young people. We stayed until after midnight which for us is unheard of.
We also loved Zen-It and enjoyed some lunches and many afternoon drinks there right on the beach.
Hubby got tired of the GCBC breakfast after a few days so we walked into town, a couple of places now offer full breakfasts which was nice.
The water in front of the GCBC was beautiful, great for swimming.
Grand Case is a mellow kind of place. I can hardly wait to go back.
Incidently, we used Hertz for our rental and we were fine.
Hubby has the shopping gene in the family, so we spent a day in Phillipsburg as he got his shopping fix (camera and sunglasses). He almost drove me crazy with his walk up and down Front Street asking every storeowner what kind of deal he could get on a waterproof camera. So we agreed to part company for a while and I sought refuge at the Ocean Lounge at Holland House -- a sophisticated oasis in the midst of all the cruise ship madness. I did notice that the hotel was busy, seemed many people would just show up and ask if there were any rooms available.
We opted to have lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe...not a very exciting choice, but the restaurant was very nice. No problems there. But I was so relieved to get back to GC!
So it was a week of great weather, relaxing times and absolutely no problems or complaints (except of course about the traffic but what are you gonna do?).
