Laser 101 on air said there are border check points and you need French Passport to enter.

I assume, hopefully, one can exit if one is trying to get to an evacuation point on the Dutch-side!?

You can leave but you can not enter without French passport.

This sounds as though it is security related, and I think it is probably a good idea. Hopefully, the guards have access to the French passport data base, to deal with folks who are there lawfully, but have lost possession of the physical passport.
The Dutch should give serious consideration to setting up on the other side of the street. And I predict that this will stay in place for a while.
