No political intent. But, this will be a failure to execute and deliver.

Imagine a D.C. response to Katrina or Harvey of only police after a week.

The US has never had a state capital wiped out in modern time. Road Town is not functional leaving London to cover all the bases for Road Town.

London should at least send a cruise ship and cargo ship to act as the government seat and government stores.

Might have noticed that a couple of British channels (Sky in particular) have been baiting the government flipping between asking why the british should aid a "rich island" like the BVI and yelling about slow response. In any wide spread disaster people are gonna bitch and the news media believes it is their job to stir the pot to get ratings.

The Brits had an LCD in Anguila within 24 hours of the storm passing and troops flown in within 36 hours. The BVI had troops on the ground within 12 hours of the airport being declaired safe. It takes more than 5 or 6 days to load a ship full of provisions and sail it 3000 miles.

The problem is NOT supplies. The dock at Port Purcell is loaded with provisions provided by volunteers from PR to the point that yesterday they were turning away boats. The problem has been distribution and that is the result of poor or no planning by the DDM. They have always concentrated on getting everyone to safety for a tsunami or hurricane and that did result in a very low fatlity ratebut they failed to plan for post disaster services.

I agree with the government handling a disaster. Also take into account that the "government" is actually people who they themselves have lost their homes, their vehicles, their cell phones, etc. Now the ways and means of managing the infrastructure which is gone would be mind boggling for even the brightest of humans. Finding a roof over their head for their families, after this happened would disorient anyone. Now, take into account that much work is done by the foreign nationals who have also lost their basic necessities of life, and there is bound to be a bit of chaos. People who can have left, or are leaving, <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" /> So, the BVI people who have long had others made decisions for them, must step up and village by village get food to their villages, and try to get some sanitary conditions established. Diseases will surface during these conditions, the mosquito population is growing, and with it comes sickness.
