We’ve just returned from another wonderful week in the BVI. This year we took the kids (age 12 and 8- but he turns 9 today) and traveled with Craig’s brother’s family who also have 2 children age 7 and 9. Our niece and nephew had never been to the BVI so it was fun to see it through their eyes.
The dads arrived on island on Thursday Oct 29, picked up our 4700 at Footloose on Friday and they were off. They picked the rest of us up at Trellis on Saturday the 30th. The winds were up most of the week and we had some great sails! We averaged 9 knots most days which was great compared to previous November trips when we didn’t have much wind.
Highlights included:
Watching our kids take their cousins through the Baths, lead the hike to the Bubbly Pool, etc.. they were being “tour guides” and loving it. Seeing all of the wonders of the BVI through the eyes of young children. Watching all of the kids play with new found friends at Leverick Bay on Jumbie night. It’s amazing how kids can meet and play all night together as if they’d been best friends for years. At the end of the night my son said to his new friend, “See you here next year.” One can only hope!
Watching my son catch a silverside with his bare hands- there were so many in White Bay, JVD that he just reached into the water and grabbed one! He also had the thrill of catching fish off the stern this year, though the trolling rod was unsuccessful. Being “copilot” on Cape Air wasn’t too bad for him either!
It was great to meet TTOL’ers at Leverick as well. I finally have some faces to attach to names. Carolyn, thanks for telling me stories of Catfight week. I wish we’d been there!
No downsides to report, thankfully. The weather held off, despite my worries about hurricane Tomas. The boat was in great shape- better than any Moorings boat we’ve ever had! Had a few rocky nights due to wind so we were not sleeping so well. But really we can’t complain. It was a wonderful trip!
