After the recent discussion between "owners" and "vacationers", these two questions came to my mind:
1. Who plans to rebuild?
2. Who plans to walk away?
At this point in time, it may not even possible to answer these questions. I understand that many of us don't even know the extent of our damages. I also understand that many of us are still in a state of shock, disbelief, despair, and helplessness. However, I thought that maybe facing these questions would give us a sense of the extent that the island might be able to come back.
I would like Question 1. to be answered by homeowners (not TS owners) and business owners. Question 2. is open to anybody.
Let me be the first to answer my own question. Yes, we are beginning to formulate plans to repair and rebuild our villa. There will be many obstacles for sure, and it will definitely stretch our resources further than we even want to think about. But to us, it would be worse just to take our lumps and walk away.
Just curious what everybody is thinking. Thanks.

We plan to rebuild... I have been Luis, Marilyn and Sandy. You do not walk away. It is a real estate holding for me, nothing more. I have many properties and have not been attached to any to a point of an emotional breakdown. It is a real estate holding period. I am having a Hallowween party in SXM. No need to decorate just wear a costume.

WOW! I can't even BELIEVE you are asking this question right now. Apparently, you don't "GET" human suffering.

I would imagine for some small business owners they may want to walk away temporarily - for several months. Obviously tourist volume will be way down and rebuilding/reopening a business too early may not be cost effective.

we do not know what damage to our home in the pelican keys. but it is our property. what can we do? we have to at least do repairs. not knowing how huge they are and not hearing anything is stressful, For young people this is ok. for us. its a huge emotional and physical burden. but owning makes it different from all else... no choice... However. we will not enjoy our home for a long time to come, and we may be gone by then.
