Okay, so it's been a long couple of weeks and I'm thinking Mother Nature must be pretty much pi$$ed with us right about now. She's delivered fire, floods and other weather related problems across much of North America. We've experienced a hurricane that devastated large parts of Texas; an earthquake in Mexico; incredible heatwaves in the Pacific Northwest not to be outdone by the terrible fires that are currently out of control across parts of the US and even into some parts of Canada as I understand it; and lest we thought we were out of the woods, she saw fit to send another series of hurricanes across the Atlantic and into the Caribbean and she now has her sights on Florida and points North.
I don't know about anyone else but my nerves are shot and I'm on Internet overload about now and yet, like so many of you, I can't seem to walk away from my iPad.
I would respectfully request we all think about what we're saying and how we're saying it before we make our posts. We don't need criticisms or politics right now. We don't need to point fingers or become argumentative. And we really don't need to dwell on old short-comings since we all know many of them with regard to the island and it serves no purpose to point them out now. We really need to sing Kumbaya and try to be nice to each other. We don't need snarky or rude posts. There's so much hurt going on with regard to all that's happening that I hope we can be kind to each other, at least until this nightmare gets sorted out. I'm going to try very hard and I hope everyone else does, too.

You are so right pat. You are a vacationer, so should try to remember that this is left up to those resorts private homes, and all businesses to get the Island back to its beauty...Everyone has a part, but although you love the Island and its vacation time!!! This will be up to investers to rebuild. In many ways I wish I was on of you. We will have to be one to rebuild... Hopefully you can go back and reak the sacrifise. that's not being sarcastic, but reality... I really do not thing anyone that owns in St.M. feels sad for vacationers right now... The need to focus on the Island and repairs...

I will tell you how to do it. Focus on one thing and put blinders on the whole picture. If each person takes the task of rebuilding just their own property it all comes together as one restored, repaired and renewed Country. An island destination for all those loyal tourists who make SXM their home away from home.

And for anyone who thinks that the looting and things of that nature are only happening on SXM, I have just seen a video of looting in Fort Lauderdale. Sadly, a certain mindset must engage where chaos for some means opportunity for others.
And similar to SXM where looter were not taking food or water for their survival but tvs and refrigerators in FL the thieves we taking basketball shoes. Because we all know that when the power is out and you can't get food or water, it's important that your feet look good and feel comfortable.
It's the end of the world as you know it But I feel fine

I agree. This is now up to those that own to get the Island back for vacationers... And I know there are lots that vacation there and love it!!! Your role is to sit back and wait till all else make it beautiful enough for you to go back... In many ways your lucky not having to be invested. Your investment is your vacation... If your young enough, you will go back, If not??? all you lost was some time tanning on the beach, or drinking your favorite drink.. The Island will come back, but it may take years. So you need to feel bad and move on... this will not be a vacation spot for a long while... that's reality..

Sasasal... was your island property for your own use, or did you rent it out?
Please attempt some optimism.

I have no idea if or when I will find out the damage. You really need to chill out and take a good look at yourself. Maybe owning property in SXM was not your best fit.

sasasal,
Perhaps you need to go back and reread my post. I was talking about being nice in general. You are not the only one who has lost property and since you responded to Wendy's post, hers was a pretty safe assumption"
You really need to chill or watch tv instead of the Internet.
